Current Status: AIR Superfan Client available

Well, we've got some partial good news .. The AIR client is available. There will also be a mobile client, but that is not yet ready. But in the interest of getting you going, here's the information for getting the AIR Superfan Client installed and running on your Computer ..

REMEMBER .. This is for you and you only, please do not pass this information on to your friends, relatives, boss, enemy, etc. etc. etc.

    Download and Install:

    http://directv.vo.llnwd.net/nfl/u/supercast/app/supercast_badge.html

Once installed use the following credentials (same for everyone)

    Email Address: devuser3
    Password: tomPass3

There is not '@' or extra information after 'devuser3' in the username .. You'll know where to put that in when the screen pops up for you after installation :)

    Enjoy!

    Linux AIR client

It seems Adobe does not have a released AIR client for Linux. However, a Beta (or perhaps Alpha) version is available. you can find it at the following URL:

    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/air/

Unfortunately, it looks like there will not be official Linux support for the AIR client for the '08/'09 NFL season.

Tonight we have three different clients to test:

-) An updated AIR Client, which when they start the app it will update.
    -) The WWW application.
    -) Mobile

The WWW application is new to the testing. This is the most important one for tonight’s testing, but we would like everyone to test both if possible.

    Details about the WEB Version
    -) Download WWW client here
    -) Will NOT have highlights
-) Will NOT have the full screen feature

    The AIR Client and Mobile
Should both have highlights from the Philly/Carolina game tonight

The RED ZONE Channel will have an arbitrary video feed tonight, so it will be there… but it will not act like the red-zone.

There is a new AIR client today (Monday), and most likely will be another by Thursday.

The Mobile client availability is about 50/50 at any point in time.

DIRECTV also wants to do some stress testing this week .. The more folks that help in this regard, the better -

    Stress Testing

WHEN: This week, Tuesday 8/19 - Friday 8/22 between 10am & 1pm PT each day

What you need to do is start streaming the video from your side and let it play .. You do not need to interact with it at all including viewing the content or commenting on it. All of the tests will be on DIRECTV's side .. all you need to do is start either the AIR or WWW clients and let them run during the time periods above.

Unless I hear additional information, I'm going to say feel free to load it up .. It will be best to do it at the alloted time, but if that is not possible, then start it before you leave and let it run .. And by all means, run as many clients/streams as possible.

Just a reminder for the Linux version:

Due to Adobe not completing the AIR client for the Linux platform, DIRECTV cannot officially support the Linux OS.

The application may “possibly” work with the Alpha version of the AIR for Linux, but that is not guaranteed.

The only support for Linux this season will be via the WWW application.

The PAUSE button doesn’t act like the pause on a DVR or VCR.

The PAUSE button simply stops the live stream, without exiting the application.

When you resume, it puts you back into the stream. If you happen to be in the already existing streaming buffer, then it will seem like it is acts like a DVR.

But if you keep it paused for more then 30s or so, you will rejoin the live stream.

Additional information for 8/28/2008 games ..

DIRECTV plans on working on the encoders for the streams .. At the start of the night, only 'medium' resolution will be available .. as it gets later, the other resolutions may become available.

Things may go down at times due to the work on the encoders .. It is possible that you will need to restart your client if this happens.

    Air Client

There has been a lot of work to address issues with the highlights. Please put added emphasis in this area. If something doesn't work right, please try to duplicate the sequence that caused this event. (e.g. Click here, then there, then here, then there, then highlights and it doesn't work)

    Web Client

DIRECTV needs your help identifying a problem when using IE7. A times clicking on a game for a second time yields no audio. So if you have that issue, DIRECTV would like to know the full IE7 version they are running, and as much info about your system as possible.

I've created new discussion threads for today 8/29/2008

I believe that today is the last day of Pre-Season NFL .. so hopefully you'll have access to the applications today (I haven't heard).

I should be getting more information about the status of this trial today or over the weekend, but I do believe that it will be coming to a close as DIRECTV was pretty clear that it would only be fore the Pre-Season games .. For those that have NFLST & Superfan, this should be a nice tool for Sunday games.

    Cheers
