this is not a D* issue, it is NHL Network US which has decided that giving us the whole HNIC experience on Saturday is a bad idea.

    Well, it happened yet again...

Saturday night's Rangers Maple Leafs game was 100% unviewable for me due to it...

    A) NOT being part of Center Ice, which I subscribe to.
    B) being blacked out on MSG(HD AND SD) which I expect since Directv says I am part of the Boston RSNs
    C) being blacked on on the NHL Network because it say I am in the Rangers local viewing area.

C is the issue for me. Directv insists I am NOT in the Rangers viewing area, so that is why I am blacked on MSG. However then WHY am I also blacked out on the NHL network? It's ONE OR THE OTHER, NOT BOTH. I just can't get this thru their thick skulls at Directv.

My other question is why is this game not included as part of Center Ice?

If there is any insiders on the boards that can help me resolve this issue, I would be eternally greatfull. The zipcode at issue is 06776(Litchfield Cty, CT).

I'm sorry I have no clue how you should proceed to address this but it actually sounds like an NHL issue. They need to sort out what is a black out zone and what isn't.

Games that are broadcast nationally over the nhl network, nbc and versus will not be available on centre ice. Logically, there is no reason for them to be, since they are available for free for everybody. (that of course assumes that your carrier carries the channel, ie versus)

If you are getting the Rangers on centre ice normally, it sounds like an error in the database of directtv. (are people in your zipcode able to watch the rangers on the nhl network on dish or cable?)

I would try to get this resolved during normal business hours, instead of on a Sat night when all you have working are just cust service reps who really cant do anything to help.

I would call them up and explain the situation to them calmly and ask to speak to a technical person if at all possible.

    Good luck

Not sure why you are getting blacked out of NHLN, but I can see why you didn't get it on MSG 634 & 635. According to the D* website [LINK], using zip code 06776 your local RSN's are the following:

New England Sports Network (Ch. 628) - HD Available
    # Boston Bruins (HD Available)
    # Red Sox (HD Available)

CSN New England (Ch. 630) - HD Available
    # Boston Celtics (HD Available)

Yankee Ent. & Sports (YES) (Ch. 631) - HD Available
    # New Jersey Nets (HD Available)
    # Yankees (HD Available)

SportsNet New York (Ch. 639) - HD Available
    # Mets (HD Available)

It looks like my wish is coming true. They now list HD channel 774-1 for the Sabres Leafs game on 10/30. So it looks like wet get the Canadian SNET-O HD feed for this game!

Maybe, maybe not. IMO it's due to Directv's ignorance of the stated NHL blackout setup and Directv playing by their own rules. Years ago, I used to get many Rangers/Isles/Devils games without CI. I also got Knicks games but no Celtics games. However, a few years ago, Directv changed what I got. I suddenly became exclusively Boston area and started getting Celtics games but no Knick/Rangers/Isle/Devils.

THIS, I believe is where the problem lies. I honestly think Directv did this ON THEIR OWN, without directives from the leagues(at least not the NHL) with regard to the blackout rules.

When I goto MSG Network, it says the same thing it always has for the state of Connecticut... "up to 50 games may be broadcast BEYOND Fairfield cty"(although I think it onces stated 60 games). I am just beyond Fairfield cty in Litchfield cty. However, I never get ANY Rangers games AT ALL, without CI. I am blacked out of 100% of the games on Directv.

I think what is happening with for example. last Saturday's game on the NHL network is The NHL Network is basing it's blackout on the 50 games beyond Fairfield cty rule, as stated on MSG network's site and the NHL network thinks this is one of the 50 games I am allowed to watch on MSG network, so I get blacked out. HOWEVER, Directv, since they have set their "own" blackout rules and are not following the NHL's version, are also blacking me out and thus the predicament I am in.

I've actually emailed the NHL twice now, with no response at all. I emailed them and Directv right after both times it happened. The NHL seems to have no concern for this at all.

Directv got back to me the first time, eventually trying to tell me that there is a station in my area with exclusive rights to show the game. I then asked what the station was/is and never got a response, even after repeated attempts. I doubt this is the case because this was either MSG in the local area or the NHL network outside of the local area.

Sorry for the long post but I am at my wits end with this and am getting frustrated at the complete lack of concern from the NHL or Directv.

Chuck W, I would send an email to Ellen @ ellen.filipiak@directv.com to explain what is happening. Let her know that you emailed customer support and did not receive a satisfactory answer. She will respond and has resolved many issues for D* subscribers.

The NHL and Directv must think that they are dealing with uneducated viewers who will accept the B.S. answers they dish out.

    I think not.

We can see thru all of this and want real answers and of course resolution.

We must keep up the pressure.

Can someone explain 2 feeds airing tonight. The FSCarolinaHD feed isn't 16:9 as in previous games. And FSTenneseeHD feed which isn't 16:9?

I have seen other Carolina games and they have been in 16:9 format and HD.

I wish those banners on the side could be bigger lol

Only a few RSNs are 100% HD on their games. I know NESN is but I know Fox Sports Florida is about 50%.

The Carolina game is not in HD tonight. I am in NC and it's coming in on my RSN in SD with the side banners. The way the Canes are playing this should be broadcast in LD (low def), they don't deserve video quality better than a bad internet feed tonight..lol

Chuck W - thanks for your great post. I actually thought a bit for re-subscribing to NHLCI, but I'll remain on the sidelines until DirecTV gets their act together.

They did such a great job (thanks to SatelliteRacer and his folks), but they're really going downhill now.

Keep the information coming here - if it gets better, I'll probably re-up.

I believe its because it was an away game. Since there was only an SD feed on FS Carolina, they up-converted on the HD channel. Not sure what you meant by an FS Tennessee feed? The other SD feed was MSG.

Here is how it works for the Sabres. All home games are in HD in the local market. All the away games last year were in SD. This year its been enhanced. Anytime the away game is on an MSG feed (Rangers, Isles, Devils), the local market will get the HD feed. Unfortunately on NHLCI, we get none of those HD feeds.

I thought the FSN family of RSNs was going to have all home/road hockey games in HD this season since the Houston Fox Sports broadcast center opened a year ago or so.

Yes..Versus...MSGHD...HNIC on NHLCI....all brought up today. Several callers mentioned that the first game of HNIC get cut off before the post game show. Bettman indicated that he would talk to programming folks regarding leaving game up until 10PM. In regards to second game he mentioned that the game is on NHLCI (because On The Fly is the best hockey program on the network and fans want to see highlights as opposed to actual hockey ). Caller mentioned HNIC game is not in HD on NHLCI he also indicated he would look into it. (Don't hold your breath).

Versus was same old rhetoric...blah blah call Directv...consumer has choice to look for programming that suits there need. Obviously on Versus side on this issue.
