I understand a little bit of French and even if I didn't I still enjoy these occasional broadcasts. Their excitement for the game, especially if the Habs are winning, is fun to hear.

I am glad I took 4 years of French in high school.. at least I'll be able to follow the game that way.

So how does it get determined what feeds are HD for the Center Ice package? I notice that no Canadian feeds are in HD unless the Leafs are playing. Are there agreements by team, or is it just a strange coincidence?

i see you haven't read the protocols of the elders of the toronto maple leafs? in other words it's a canadian conspiracy that essentially dictates that toronto will control what canadian teams are allowed to be shown in hd on direct tv. it is believed it was written by brian burke but no one is actually sure.

I think the NHL has to have agreements with each team AND each network to make feeds available via Center Ice. It is then up to each cable/sat provider to decide which of those feeds to use. Some feeds are free of charge to the cable/sat provider (beyond what they already have to pay to be allowed to carry Center Ice in the first place), while others cost extra. SD and HD feeds are negotiated separately, and since cable can provide very little HD on the package (due to bandwidth limitations), I wouldn't be surprised if DirecTV ultimately pays more for the package simply because of how much HD they offer in the first place.

It appears that DirecTV is using HD feeds of Leafs games from SportsNet, but not LeafsTV or anyone else. Perhaps down the road we may see other Canadian HD feeds, but it will have to be profitable for DirecTV before any feeds appear.

This whole thing is very confusing. Watching all these MSG standard feeds. What the hell is the difference from streaming HD when they already provide the SD version. Beyond me *sigh*:mad: It is a truly bizarre thing and whatever the issues REALLY are have not been given to the fans-US!

+1, and the RDS feed of the Habs/Thrashers game was actually not too bad for being SD.

Also, I mentioned this on another thread, but why aren't the Upcoming games in the guide grayed out like the NBA package is. I was looking through the guide at the NBA games with the free preview and noticed the games that were a day later or so were grayed out. Makes it much easier to see whats going on.

It appears that the NHL has an agreement for HD feeds with all the Rogers Sportsnet regions. If you look at the In Demand schedule for cable with this [Link], you will see SNET-E, SNET-P, SNET-W showing HD feeds for games with the Leafs, Canadians, Senators, Flames & Canucks.

So it appears the NHL has the agreement for all Sportsnet HD feeds, but D* hasn't chosen to include the other HD feeds yet. I believe they pay extra for the Sportsnet feeds, so they use them sparingly. So far they have only used the Leafs Sportsnet HD feed 3 times. For 2 games against teams with MSG as there RSN. And when Versus had an exclusive US feed window, they provided 1 Sportsnet HD feed opposite that game.

Edit: Looks like another Sportsnet Ontario HD feed coming up during the Versus US feed exclusive window.

OMG NHL live was just trying to explain why no MSGHD feeds and other HD feeds were available on cable/sat providers and CI. From what I gathered it was such a GREY response and gave no real answer-typical!!! Nobody wants to take the blame. Or they blame each other.

The folks who own the MSG network also own the Rangers and they are in a pissing match with the NHL over the NHL's wanting to control the Rangers web site. There for there are NO HD feeds from MSG fo this reason.
This has NOTHING to do with D* E* of any cable system it is only because the NHL and the Dolans. If and when the pissing is over then perhaps we will see MSG in crystal clear HD.

I go to Europe quite regularly and it is more likely that I will make my next oceanic crossing by flapping my arms and flying at mach 0.8 than it is that the Dolans and the NHL will stop peeing at each other.
