Since I had the honor of opening last year's thread, i will do so for next year.

The big topics will be expanding Canadian HD feeds and the impact Winnipeg has on tv and eventual realignment. Oh, yea, and will the Canucks come back as strong next year after their great season with the bitter disappointment.

Well add WGN HD to the Canadian pick up (it's on the same sat's).

Will the NHL start giving out the HD feeds? like the NBA and MLB does? or will D* have to do it on it's own.

I sure hope DirecTV picks up a few of the Canadian HD feeds, especially Winnipeg. I live about the same distance between the Twin Cities and Winnipeg, and it would be great to be able to follow both teams, but I'm not gonna follow Winnipeg very easily if it aint in HD.

And the biggest off season question Vancouver has, in my mind, is what to do with that headcase goalie of theirs.

I'm always for more Canadian HD especially now with a newold team up north... Go oilers...

Csn Philly would be nice. Very, very nice... I think it might cause my heart to stop at this point..

This forum is always good for generating a number of passionate themes, and it is hoped that readers will pursue direct contact with the NHL and other avenues to get more HD broadcasting. Specifically, the Canadian feeds would be a big plus and, since some of them appeared on NHLN last season, let's push for more games on this channel. That presumes that Versus (or whatever they're going to be called) and CI operate the same. Now that Versus has been locked up for 10 years, I assume that no other operator, such as HDNet, can get back in the game.
While I'll still be able to enjoy MSG on my new 55" Vizio, Wilbur continues to get the shaft from the Flyers; hopefully even that has a possibility of change.

    From the old thread.......
I agree. Once they get an HD mix channel, Canadian HD feeds, and CSN-Philly HD, the package will be complete.

Almost taking the cup and they are all- to a man- bitterly disappointed??
Big fold in game 7, arguably, but a reason to be deeply sorrowful??

Honestly, I don't want more games on NHLN the way it works now, I want less. Unlike the MLB package, whenever a game is presented on NHL Network, it locks out the other feed of it that would otherwise be presented on center ice. Example: The Penguins visit the Capitals. I want to watch the Penguins feed. NHL Network picks the game up and uses the Capitals feed. I'm stuck listening to Joe Bininati root for the Capitals all game long.

Either produce the games you show with neutral announcers, or leave the RSN feeds open on Center Ice.

This is why they are considered to have an arrogant attitude that turned a lot of people off and rallied against them.
Seems like from even the beginning of the season they felt that they were the SC champs already and it would be a mere formality to award them the prize.

Truthfully though, it is a bitter disappointment to be so close to it and not achieve it. The sad thing for them (and as a die hard Hawks fan here I could give a s--t) is getting back to the finals will be extremely difficult again after not winning the whole thing. Just ask the Flyers.

The new Winnipeg Jets team will change a few things, but I don't think a lot of DirecTV viewers will be affected due to the vicinity of the Minnesota Twins in U.S. territory.

Oilers and Flames fans in Manitoba might be screwed, as Manitoba will now be for sure for the new NHL team. But since DirecTV doesn't have (legal) clients there, nothing changes there. Viewers in the Dakota's will probably retain the Minnesota Wild as their local team.

A bigger problem might be what team Atlanta viewers are going to get... they are close enough to both the Nashville Predators as well as the Carolina Hurricanes to get their games. Whether they will get a fanbase however.... remains to be seen.

I could not agree more! I cringed every time I saw that the Rangers were on NHLN because I never knew which feed I'd get. Then to make it even worse, if it was the MSG feed, they switched to the NHLN announcers for between period reports. I would prefer the Rangers feed for that reason as well. I can't say I always like the announcers or agree with them (and I wouldn't care at all if I never saw Stan Fischler again in my lifetime,) but I would like the option to watch my team's feed all the time.
