Last year pretty much the only HD feeds were Leafs games because DirecTV added Rogers Sportsnet for baseball. I don't remember anything else. I'm not holding my breath for any more Canadian HD feeds on NHLCI we hockey fans aren't a big enough group I guess.

    Saturday oct 8th

SHould the NHl network show ottawa/toronto (both teams suck) or a playoff rematch with Tampa Bay and Boston. That one they got right

    Oct 15th

Boston at Chicago isnt the greatest pick but ottawa/washington, no, winnipeg/phoenix no, calgary/toronto, no and colorado/montreal maybe

I wouild have went with la/philadelphia myself because of the trade in the summer

    oct 22

you got your montreal/toronto matchup, although it is hard tow atch when one team sucks all the time (leafs)

    oct 29th

boston montreal is one of the best is not the best current rivalry so that is a great pick

    nov 5th

Montreal Rangers isnt a bad pick. Columbus Philadelphia would be the best again because of the trade in the summer

    nov 12th

not a fan of the capitals devils the cbc matchups are terrible but so are most of the rest. Maybe dallas detroit or boston buffalo

    Nov 19th.

Montreal rangers again? ok san jose dallas would be my pick

    nov 26th

pitts montral is a good pick but I think vancover san jose is better.

I get yelled at each time I say this, but te NHL network should show the best matchup on sat and not a 7 hour informercial for hnic and crappy leafs teams. I am personally glad I dont get the Leafs shoved down my throat. There is always center ice for that.

Your rant against the CBC and HNIC is just off base. They produce the best hockey telecasts bar none. If you read my comments carefully my primary point is that the NHL Network is slowly dumping HNIC. My secondary point is about Leafs games. And you can't say oh well if you want to watch HNIC just go to Center Ice. It's not the same product is NHLCI feeds of HNIC haven't been in HD in the past and there's no reason to see that changing this year.

Its the truth. Too bad you cant deal with it. The NHL is telling you with their actions that if you want to see HNIC each week, get centre ice. That makes them more money. PLus the fact that maybe the reason they reducted the hnic broadcasts was because the ratings suck and they lost money showing them.

You can bitch moan scream all you want, but it isnt changing.

I thought it was the NHL network, not CBC.

I agree with blackhawkzone on this point, look at it from the NHL Network's point of view. They are an American channel. I am betting (and the NHL Network must agree with me) that the number of American viewers for the best Saturday matchup will be higher than the number of viewers for the CBC game which almost 100% of the time features Toronto (who is terrible) or Montreal (who will probably make the playoffs but not by much) or both. You should consider yourself fortunate that the NHLN is still showing Coach's Corner and Hot Stove for you from the CBC during intermissions.
The Center Ice package is who you should be mad at for not providing the CBC feeds in HD, not the NHL Network. Although the same people at the NHL might be responsible for both. I wish CBC HD feeds were on CI too but that doesn't appear likely anytime soon, I guess you could get the online package if it's that important to you although I gather the quality is not near as good as D*'s HD.

Anyone tried getting any NHLCI discounts for this season? I saw on my July bill it said that NHL CI was 4 payments of $42.95, or $171.80 for the full season. I think I am going to wait until early October after all the NFLST hoopla dies down, but I figure someone might be trying now.

I think that is the whole point, if you have CI you can watch one of the games they are showing on Saturday in HD but the HNIC game is not in HD if not on the NHL network, and while I may not want to watch leafs/ sens some might and the only way they are getting HD is if the game is on HNIC.

I believe that phrase refers to Versus/NBC Sports having exclusive rights to carry NHL games on a national cable TV network. Last year Versus and NHL Network both had games on Wednesdays, whereas this year Versus/NBC Sports has that night to themselves. I highly doubt this will affect Center Ice nor local team coverage - if they had absolute exclusivity, there would be far fewer games scheduled on Wednesdays than there are.

The first year Versus had exclusive games at 7PM Tuesday nights, there were many nights where other games on at the same time were blacked out on CI. The second year, the schedule was made so there was only a couple of times when this would happen. Now that the number of exclusive games has doubled from last year, I'm very concerned that we won't be able to watch all the games that are on.

    Time will tell.

No screaming here. May I suggest you check the mirror and see who is doing the shouting? As for bitching and moaning, I thought one was allowed to comment here without being subjected to abuse.

Actually, they are both US and Canadian (US started in 2007; Canadian NHL Network started in 2001). Their normal programming is the same; only the live games are different.
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. You're comparing a HNIC game against "the best Saturday matchup". The NHL Network isn't showing the "best" matchup on Saturday's - they are showing the first HNIC game and then going to the studio for "NHL on the Fly" instead of showing the second game. But I'm guessing that its cheaper for the NHL to broadcast their own in-studio show than show both games of HNIC.

But we know that HNIC is available in HD. So why is it only shown in SD when it is on a CI channel?

BTW -- anyone hear anything recent on the NHL realignment beginning with the 2012-2013 season? I just did a quick Google search; nothing new in the press since late-June/early-July.

The last item I saw (copied below) was July 12th, and it said that realignment discussion would not occur until December.

"It appears the Winnipeg Jets may be playing in the Central Division of the Western Conference after next season.

According to the Grand Rapids Press, Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold said as much on Monday, telling Minneapolis radion station, KFAN that the Wild would be playing in the Central Division against the Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars and possibly the Columbus Blue Jackets. He made no mention of the Detroit Red Wings, which is the team most likely to move the Eastern Conference to accomodate the Jets' move.

The NHL Board of Governors are scheduled to meet in December to resume talks of realignment. The Jets will play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference this season, joining the Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers."

Thanks. I saw on one website (nhlrealignment.com) that they had what they said is Bettman's rough proposal. Both Detroit and Columbus in the East and Toronto going West. Which doesn't make much sense.

Of course then they said "exact proposal" has not been released.

I hope the displayed alignment does not happen, since as a Rangers fan I want those rivalry matchups with the Devils and Flyers. Better that they simply went with 2 conferences, and used wild cards for four of the playoff positions.

IMO Toronto should be in the Eastern and Columbus in the Midwest

I've seen other people suggest this also. Makes the most sense.

Toronto in the west doesn't work for me either. But I know the Columbus fans want to be in the east to reduce their number of 10/10:30 pm games if they remain in the west.

Who cares about the Columbus fans... They are in the central time zone and we should move Toronto who are in the eastern time zone to the west so that a team from the central time zone can watch games earlier. This is the biggest joke I have ever heard. One step forward two steps backward by having Toronto play at 10:30pm, especially being one the top 3 biggest markets in terms of revenue.
