Yes, but if the games are on Versus, will they also be available on the RSN's and CI?
If Versus has two games on their schedule for Wednesday, then they would be exclusive to Versus, and all other games should be on CI and/or an RSN. Any game that Versus picks up in progress would be essentially bonus coverage for viewers without CI. For example, Versus wil show the Ranger-Caps games 2 and 4, so the other games should be on CI and MSG.
if i recall vs gets the national broadcast and the RSN only is showed in their region- but who knows- my memory is not what it used to be!
The last few years Versus JIP games have been on CI.
In the first round of the playoffs, ALL Versus games are out-of-market only, meaning the teams can televise the games locally on their RSN or OTA channels. The local telecasts are available on Center Ice if (and only if) the start time is 2 hours or less after the start time of another game on Versus.
On Wednesday, for example, Versus has coverage of three games:
7:00 ET Phoenix @ Detroit
7:30 ET NY Rangers @ Washington
10:00 ET Chicago @ Vancouver
Since the Rangers/Caps game's start time is within 2 hours of the Coyotes/Wings game's start time, the Rangers/Caps game will be available on Center Ice. However, the Hawks/Canucks game starts more than two hours later, so that game will be excluded from CI. All games will have local coverage by the respective teams, and Versus' coverage of each game will be blacked out in the local markets.
On cable, Versus provided feeds for each affected market that has replacement programming during the blackout periods. These alternate feeds will include more complete coverage of games that are joined in progress. However, at least in years past, these alternate feeds have NOT been available on DirecTV.
In the second round, things get more complicated. Some Versus games are out -f market only, while others have nationwide coverage and cannot be carried by the local teams. Thus, some Versus games are subject to blackout, while others aren't. If Versus carries two games on a particular night, and the second game is a Versus exclusive, then an alternate feed is made available to BOTH cable and satellite providers which has the second game in its entirety, whether the first game runs over or not. In years past, this is the ONLY time DirecTV has picked up any alternate feeds from Versus.
I do wish DirecTV would have all of the Versus alternate feeds, especially on nights when the early game on Versus goes into overtime and runs into the late game (which is not available on CI). However, either Versus has not made the feeds available to DirecTV, or DirecTV has chosen not to carry them. (Maybe things will be different this year, but I doubt it. Remember that Comcast, one of DirecTV's biggest competitors, owns the channel.)
the jip games were on center ice last year in their entirity.
the games that they plan on showing complete games on, will not be on centre ice at all. if the previous game goes to ot, you have to wait for it to finish.
that was likely a directtv screwup. the game should not have been available on centre ice at all due to the nhl network exclusive out of market rights to that game.
so assuming this is all correct, with 604 and 604-1 on D* and CI there should be no issues to speak of and certainly not for CI subs and in the 2nd round there are only 4 series Usually at most 2 games per night) there should be no problems either. I do not remember having any problems watching all games last year and JIP vs. games started on 604 in case of overtime in the early game.
That's what is total BS. So in your example, with Hawks/Canucks excluded from CI, that means those watching on Versus out of market of any of those cities listed in these matchups will be forced to see the end of Rangers/Washington (Which almost guaranteed won't end at 10pm et given the 7:30pm et start time) before Versus switches over to CHI/VAN, with no alternate to allow those who want to see every single second of CHI/VAN, and NO CI feeds for CHI/VAN either. Is that right? If it's right it's complete crap.
actually what i think that versus does is stop showing rangers/washington if it goes to ot, since it is on centre ice.
whatever they do, somebody will be upset.
I hope your right on that, but can anyone confirm? Also, my fear isn't just OT, is that the Rangers/Washington 7:30pm ET JIP Game will still be in regulation when 10pm et rolls around. Thanks.
The VS website doesn't even list the Sabres/Flyers game on Thurs 4/14, so hopefully it will be on MSG HD. Then they will show the end to the national VS audience. I know the NHL website does show that VS will carry the game, but it may be more of a live look in for the end of the game [link].
Yeah, I definitely don't remember any problems last year with the JIP games...They were all on CI, but the problem might come in with that Van/Chi series...Are the Chicago playoff games broadcast on CSN or WGN? I am also confused about that JIP 7:30 Ranger/Capitol game on Wednesday considering the DET/PHX game starts at 7:00, even though I assume we will get a CI feed for the Ranger game on MSG.
Yep, they will simply show the end of the Rangers-Capitals game on CSN Mid Atlantic (remember it's Versus, which is owned by Coincast, so they are going to use CSN feeds for bonus coverage whenever they can).
Though, I'm not sure about whether or not Versus would show the end of the Rangers-Capitals game if it goes to OT.
And LA/SJ, which was main impetus for asking, I HATE that Versus even thinks about joining in progressing a game that is almost over, because that almost assuredly screws over people who want to see the late game. And since the late game will not have NHL CI feeds open, those people are screwed unless an alternate channel is provided and used in such a scenario, but like I said, last year I missed 8 full minutes of game play of a Sharks/Avs playoff game because of this scenario and I was very upset.
I am hoping the situation is rectified for this year's playoffs.
why dont they just use NHL network as an alternate theyre it sits an HD feed ready channel and they wont even use it
the flyers series all games on CSN except for game 6 if neccesarry on NBC
+1. Of course I'm not sure Versus would go for that, that would take eyes off of their channel.
And we so need a mix channel during the first round.
heck they could still use theyre VS logo and stuff usually NHL network will use other feeds like sunday they used FS southwest onlything you saw was a grey faded nhl network logo in the bottom right thats it
That wasn't FSSW it was a local station KTXA21.
