Now that the heat wave broke in the East and the draft and free agency period are in the rear view mirror, can I now begin the whine, beg, cajole and any other earnest verb you can come up with for the remaining HD feeds to be added for next year.
In Canada, there are a good number of Habs games not broadcast on English TV.
RDS is used a few times each season (or seems to be) on Directv when there is no English feed available either from Canada (CBC or TSN) or from the opposition RSN.
I am so tired of VS and NBC forgetting that there are teams west of the Mississippi. While I am griping perhaps we could not have to seemingly always see either whoever the Capitals or Penguins happen to be playing.
I heard from a reliable source the NHL is going to do divisional realignment and the 5 teams you mentioned are going to be in the NBC Division! :hurah:
Not sure what the problem is with this. NBC is about viewers and ratings so they want to show the NHL best teams/players every week. Anyone care to mention the Stanley Cups Finalist over the last 3 years? Anyone care to mention where the Hart Finalists over the last 4 years play? Anyone care to mention where the Art Ross Finalists over the last 4 years play?
Seems to me the best teams with the best players are the ones being shown on NBC. And before anyone mentions Henrik Sedin you should think about what country his team plays their home games in and what country NBC is located in.

Yo do realize putting those teams on National TV is smart considering how the NHL is still trying to sell its product? Look at the playoffs the last 3-4 years and see what teams blossomed? Half the teams outside those 5 can't even sell their tickets or are in debt, or just plain have a bad product. I am see NHL views a matchup between Crosby and Philly, Crosby vs Ovechkin, or s Stanley Cup rematch much more meaningful then a battle between James Neal and Shane Doan.
Agree, but I would like to see a regional game added at least some weeks for the viewers on the west coast, but then again that would be at 9:30am local start time so maybe point is moot.
It is about advertising, but it also about establishing a "national base" to grow the game. This isn't about "Fairness" to a team or a division, it more about showcasing the fact that good hockey is being played across the country. I remember a few years back when Anaheim, San Jose and other teams in the west were playing a terrific brand of hockey. Hard hitting, Fast, Scoring...it had it all, but none of it was ever featured nationally on NBC - which was bad for the game....I did post about this here in the last paragraph back in February and I still think it's applicable to today for this conversation...http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=2362703#post2362703
Just circle Toronto, but at least all 6 canadian teams do appear at some point on CBC, it's just that it is some more than others. I don't know if it will continue for 10-11, but the late CBC HNIC game is in 16:9 SD, not HD, so while the Leafs are almost always in HD on CBC, the Flames, Oilers and Canucks for the most part get SD treatment on HNIC which is ridiculous.

My beef is that the NHL does not emulate the NFL. In the NFL, if you have a team that goes 16-0, ANY team, the next year they are chock full of national TV appearances. And yes that even includes the Jaguars, or Browns, or any other currently "pathetic" franchise you can think of. The NFL promotes its good teams, no matter where they are. In the last 20 years, I'm sure you can all remember when the Colts, Patriots, etc were never on nat TV. I'm sure you can remember when the SB winning/contending Rams were on nat TV, now they are not. And you all can certainly remember when the Raiders always got the max MNF appearances, now they get one as a token I think.
Any Pacific Division NHL team could go 82-0 and win 5 cups in a row, and the NBC "map" would never change. In the case of the Coyotes, it probably would take 5 cups in a row just to get them on an NBC nationally televised REGULAR SEASON game.. a road game at NYR/PITT/BOS/WASH/PHI/DET/CHI if they are lucky.
The NHL (And NBC) has no interest is trying to increase its market share. They simply want to make as much money as possible off the traditional US NHL market, the Northeast. And that's the rub (that and the "map" changes slowly, not as fast as the NFL nat tv landscape). The NHL should be working with teams to help them get more popularity in their markets.
For example, I am a Sharks fan and I am well aware the Sharks popularity declines as you move north from San Jose. Getting the Sharks to be more popular in San Francisco and Oakland should not be just a Sharks issue, but an NHL issue.
yes, but I suspect that parise will be lighting up the net somewhere else next year as I doubt the Devils will have the cap room to resign him once he can become a UFA which is after this season, I think.
