so no more of HNIC in hd...
this is going in the wrong direction... I guess I will wait until the preview to decide to go for it or not... maybe I ll save the $171 and go back to NHL torrents

Waiting for someone to promptly tell us that we need a Canadian dish... Thanks, I'll get on that.

Boy, when I started this thread three months ago, I could never have imagined we would be worse off than last year. No HNIC in HD is beyond the pale.

DirecTV knows what is best for their NHLCI subs - that's why we don't get the HD hockey feeds from Anik F2.

    After all who needs:
    CBC
    RDS
    TSN
    TSN2
    Sportsnet East
    Sportsnet West
    Sportsnet Pacific
    Sportsnet One Ottawa
    Sportsnet One Calgary
    Sportsnet One Edmonton
    Sportsnet One Vancouver
    Leafs TV

After all this is the National Hockey League

and obviously DTV believes that "National" means US feeds

I think it is progress that we are complaining about not getting HD feeds from Canada with the NHLCI .It was only a few years ago we were bitching about the high number of radio only games in the NHL.

I am not sure what this article means exactly. But it looks like there are alot of games on FSMW NOT in HD. Really sad, because it seems like alot of teams have went all HD, not the blues. Here is that article.

Has anyone gotten any deals on pricing. I'm already getting NBA League Pass and wasn't going to get NHL Center Ice, but I could be convinced if there are deals to be had, maybe I'll give them a call.

I did that once. Had at the time Starchoice here in the US with a HD box. Then we moved and left the dish behind :nono2: but still has the box (now called Shaw Direct).
If you love hockey that is the way to go. I am a french native speaker and would watch RDS-HD a lot but with then games on CBC and TSN and TSN2 and RDS has other non-Habs games - I don't see why someone in Canada would like to pay for NHLCI unless he/she is a fan of a US team.
That was BY FAR my best experience with hockey and I never watch as much hockey before or after having Starchoice. The big downside was the fact that i didn't have a dvr...

Alot of people have gotten deals. Personally, I got NHLCI @ 1/2 price. Some have gotten it free, 1/2 off, $40 off, and some have had no luck at all. Call DTV and say cancel at the main prompt, that should get you retentions. At this point tell them that you really want to get NHL CI, have been a good customer, but really just can't afford the extra $170. Tell them times are tough. (out of job, kid in college, etc.) Good luck.

I think they are stating the loss of the FSN's to Dish, the Blues HD telecasts haven't been released just yet, but they are expected to be plentiful.

    http://blues.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=537421&navid=DL|STL|home

"FOX Sports Midwest’s high definition (HD) schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. It’s expected that a record number of Blues games will be produced in HD this season, with Versus’ five games and the vast majority of FOX Sports Midwest telecasts in HD. Check out www.stlouisblues.com and www.foxsportsmidwest.com for details."

    Here's the deal I got,
First question rep(retention) asked me if this my first year ordering CI I said yes.

Put me on hold for a few minutes and came back saying if I really enjoyed it during the free preview to call back during the free preview and he'd knock off the first payment so I would only make 3 payments instead of 4. He gave me his employee number and noted account with it so there wouldnt be an issue when I called back.
    Pretty decent I thought.

I'd imagine it still is but not worth the obvious hassle it would take to get a Canadian dish. I don't have a dvr with direct tv either. That's what torrenting and fios Internet is for!

Another visionary thing from the NHL, it would be great to have the hawks avs game available everywhere, but plenty more people would see it if they showed it on VS, which has a lot more subs than NHL Network. They should put NNIC on NHL Net for the people who live and die by that and let anyone who want to see the hawks avs outside of chicago and denver see it on VS, or as it is freeview anyway, why not just let us have HNIC in HD and let anyone who wants to see the hawks avs have it that way.

the hawks avs game is on versus on thursday night. the hawks home opener is on saturday.

i believe that versus has college football committments on saturday night.

I have been saying for years to get a canadian dish and dont wait for directtv to solve your hd issues, but have been flamed for it. I have had once since 2004 and have no issues.

The NHL Network should be promotting the league as a whole, not a bad leafs team every sat night. They should pick the best game of the night like on Wednesday and show that.

And if they do the on the fly show like the mlb network does the mlb tonight show, it would kick ass. right now, it sucks with all of the taped highlights and very few live lookins when games are going on.

The league would do a much better job promoting their league with a kick ass on the fly show than with a toronto/ottawa matchup that nobody but the diehards in the us care about.

I am seriously looking into re-doing it. I can get the dish + LNB for 95 bucks + shipping from the guys who sold it to me in the first place a few years ago.
I know how to do the install myself since I have done it the first time around.
I already have the receiver HD, the basic package is $19.99CA+tax which include RDS-HD (I am a hab fan) and CBC-HD.
I can put on hold my account during the hockey off months (according to shaw direct up to 6 month of hold a year).
I have done my homework this afternoon  Only drawback is I won't be able to DVR the games unless I spend more money into some sort of dvr. At least if I went with NHLCI through Directv then I can use my directv DVR but won't be able to watch as many habs games in HD and certainly not in French

Yeah, I knew that it had to do with Dish dropping the Fox RSN's, but on the link that explains what games aren't being covered, 11 of the 35 broadcasts are in SD. I am hoping that some of those games are in fact broadcast in hd. I guess if all the rest are in HD it isn't so bad (69 of 80 games broadcast in HD, including VS)

But if you don't live in Canada, you will need a broker to get Shaw Direct? Right? Also, what Shaw package is $19.99?

Perhaps gamecenter live might be the better option this season but I'm still on the ropes. I'm wondering about the quality of the sportsnet feeds compared to what I currently receive through direct tv? Are they better? I'm thinking they couldn't possibly be worse then the grainy, damn near sandblasted look of the sd feeds I'm forced to deal with because I choose to follow a Canadian squad...

I'm not sure what you are talking about? That link you posted is for games from last year...or am I missing something?
