It looks like an issue with the center channel, things like that are harder to monitor with equipment since it's normal for the center channel to be silent depending on the program, it's not like something where the video feed goes dead or the audio is gone completely and would trigger an alarm. Even if someone was watching every channel for a few seconds checking for errors, they wouldn't notice it unless they got to the channel during a studio segment or a commercial with a 5.1 mix and all they heard was background music.

Did you or anyone else here call DirecTV about it the moment it happened so a CSR can hear it themselves in real time and escalate it?

The NHL Network still deserves the scorn we heap on them...

    But...

Do yourselves a favor and record SportsNet's Home Town Hockey every Sunday at 6:30PM, even though they egregiously cut off the program early today.

The show is a terrific homage to why hockey is Canada's game.

Last week in London, Ontario, and today in Selkirk, Manitoba...there are stories about local lives intertwined with the game.

Some of you may find it sappy... Your loss.

Last night's game was not outputted by Directv in DD 5.1, they were transmitting Pro Logic, which is not what Rogers uses. So somewhere in the chain there was some bad converting which caused some type of phasing issues, which is probably why voices in the studio and some commercials were not there. Tonight's Lighting/Oilers feed from SN is in 5.1 and there have been no audio issues, so far.

iNDemand isn't showing any Canadian feeds tonight either, despite them having more than enough feeds available to do it tonight.

SportsNet made a schedule change late last week, bumping all of tonight's games off the main channels in favor of the World Series and put them on sister stations. The Habs were moved from SportsNet East to City Montreal, the Canucks were moved from SportsNet Pacific to SportsNet Vancouver Hockey and the Flames were moved from SportsNet West to SportsNet Flames.

And this is why I reluctantly cancelled NHLCI last week. I'm now using Game Center which, last night had all of these broadcasts. The SportsNet feeds all had commercials and intermissions, the TSN feeds did not.

I know it probably won't do anything, but anyone know who we can contact at Fox to express our displeasure of the tickers on NHL games?

a lot of the tickers have ads in them so you will likely seem them more than go away. blame the dvr's for this.

I don't mind seeing them. It lets us know what is going on elsewhere in sports.

I mind. If I need to know what's going on elsewhere is sports, I've got the internet right there on my phone. The tickers might have made sense in 1995 but are unnecessary clutter now.

+1 totally unnecessary, we have the internet. It's 2014. Or do it NBC/SportsNet style and pop up scores on the score graphic occasionally but a persistent ticker covering up a good portion of the ice is ridiculous.

Earlier I wrote to say I'd wait until the end of the CI free preview to subscribe for the coming season, as I wanted to see how Canadian feeds were being handled.
Since there are less, so far, than I hoped, I thought I'd ask for a discount, as Game Center offers those feeds.

I called Tuesday and combined the call to try to solve a problem with a wonky HR - 34.

The woman I spoke with had no clue what Game Center was, and argued CI was a good deal, "Because it costs less than Sunday Ticket". She said no discounts were available. And this was a rep I got after saying "cancel service" twice.

She also failed to connect me with anyone to help with the HR - 34 issue.

Later that day I received a survey asking for feedback on the day's phone call. I answered all the questions, registering my dissatisfaction without throwing the rep under the bus.

At noon today, I got a phone call from a very professional woman in the Boise office, and she had complete details of my account, previous history of tech visits regarding the HR -34, and details of the survey I had completed.

We walked through both issues and she had a good working knowledge of the HD shortcomings with Canadian feeds, and understood Game Center offers more feeds for the same price. She correctly added the PQ of CI is far superior.

Within 10 minutes she arranged for a new HR - 44 to be delivered solving the receiver issue.

She then offered a 12 month $10 discount on my Premier subscription to offset CI's shortcomings if I would purchase. An easy decision.

I wish I had the direct line to this woman's phone, as she was the most professional and knowledgeable DirecTV rep I've ever spoken with, regardless of the call's positive outcome.
As an aside, I asked if my screen displayed my spending through the years, and she said she knew to the dollar how much I'd spent for my service, although she laughed and said she was not allowed to tell me the total.

Today's call was terrific, but it's a shame it occasionally takes rowing through mud to finally get to the clear water we all know is there.

    On another topic regarding hockey....

Last week, I subscribed to Game Center, watching through a PS3. They have a 5 day cancellation policy, and the PQ is nowhere near the quality of MLB.tv, so Monday I called and cancelled.

My AMX card had the refund the next day, but the service is still working. I wonder if it will cut off at the end of the free preview this weekend.

There is useful information in the ticker, but it gets too repetitive. It should come up every 15 minutes or so during the game and run throughout intermission and pre-game/post-game shows.

The FSN ticker is the worst. I intentionally tune into non-FSN feeds of NHL CI and MLB EI games due to the ticker.

I would have no problem with the ticker running during intermissions. This is how MSG does it: they have a nice clean view with minimal graphics/logos and no ticker during gameplay, only during intermissions.

I agree the ticker is useless, but that is because I like to watch games, as do, apparently many who post here. As far as I can tell, that is a lost preference. We must be entertained by flashing scoreboards, bare chested dancers in the stands (I have been to Columbus twice to see the Rangers, so I know of what I speak), scores from all games all the time (even though we might want to watch a second game later without knowing the results) kiddie amusements at ball parks, seeing celebrities in the stands, ad infinitum. The game itself, big deal.

I'm glad you were able to get some satisfaction from the folks at DirecTV. I tried twice and was unsuccessful. When I cancelled, the DirecTV website said that the NHL Network was included in the Xtra package, then last weekend it changed so I've upgraded to Ultimate to get the NHL Network.

Game Center on my Computer and iPad is working well. It's true the picture quality isn't as good as on TV, but I want Canadian feeds and the situation this year, which has gotten worse made me drop NHLCI.

Any reason we're not seeing the Canadian feed of tonights Canucks game and last Sundays game? Same for the Leafs game tonight. All U.S. feeds.

If they're not going to give us Canadian feeds how about doing away with the -1 channels, since most of those are RSN feeds already available in HD?
