You can use Plex on FireTV for DLNA.
Also ...I have several Roku's including a Roku 3 and they are great little boxes but the fire tv hardware is superior and the ability to easily side load any android apps (without rooting or anything else that would harm the box) is great. The MLB.TV package is far and away the best on the FireTV and only inferior to Extra innings on D*
I hate Plex, it's completely unnecessary and I have heard it isn't free. At least Roku supports DLNA now, I would go with that one.
Now I'm curious, what makes MLB.tv superior on FireTV?
I think the hardware is far and away the best (most powerful processor) on the FireTV and that is what drives the difference in Picture Quality. it is crisp clear and almost no motion issues even when the action is moving at full speed ...the color quality is even better! (I have had the roku 2, 3, a chromecast, and a WDTV live on the same set watching MLB.TV at various times so I really have had a fair comparison I think).
I still can tell the difference between the FireTV and D* but it is really really close if MLB.TV wasnt included with EI this year I would have dropped EI (the FireTV is that close), and I have had both products since the first year either of them was offered.
You "heard it isn't free"? So you don't have any actual experience with Plex?
I recently installed Plex Media Server and while there is a fee-based version (Plex Pass), I'm using the free version.
I do all my computer video viewing/streaming on a PS3 and on that Plex is not free. I maintain my point that all streaming video devices should have DLNA support built in and find it quite disturbing that a lot of manufacturers are leaving it out now. For instance, DLNA is not on the PS4 while Plex is and is not free. The whole point of DLNA was to have a standard protocol between devices to stream videos in your home but it seems all the manufacturers now are in bed with content providers to keep whittling away at the very idea of ownership.
You don't own content. You can own a disc, but ownership rights for the content stay with the producer. Same with streaming.

The part-time Canadian NHL feeds look terrible. Obviously an improvement over SD only, but they are so brutally bit starved and the artifacting is just awful and visible with any sort of motion.
There's a potential problem with Saturday's schedule in a game with playoff implications. And naturally, the NHL Network is in the middle of the mess.
NHL Network lists Caps v Sens game for Channel 215 ( it's in their online schedule guide as well ), with Leafs v Bruins on their alternate channel for viewers in the Caps market.
But Caps v Sens also shows on Channel 769, usually held for Hockey Night in Canada telecasts. The second game of the HNIC double header is properly slotted in the 10:00 Eastern block.
The CSN feed of Caps v Sens also appears in EI on 773.
The Leafs v Bruins game does not appear in the CI schedule anywhere.
This has happened in the past and I'm guessing NHL Network originally selected Leafs v Bruins, then changed their mind.
Both these games are important in the playoff race, and leave it to the eternally incompetent NHL Network to potentially mess things up.
Now we're blaming them for "potentially" messing the schedule up. Can we at least wait until it happens before we criticize them?
It isn't like they read this and your post is going to alert them to the problem so they can fix it.
Well, trh, since the meaning of the word schedule is "a series of things to be done", yes "potentially" is the correct way to look at the current situation.
You'll also be pleased to know, I sent this to the NHL as well.
May I ask you what kind of information you believe IS appropriate for a thread like this?
Fair play to the NHL for getting today's "potential" mix up fixed.
769 today has changed from Caps v Sens to Leafs v Bruins.
Glad to see the people at NHLN, NHL CI, and whoever populates the Guide for these games got together to get it sorted.
Unfortunately, tonight's guide is still messed up. D*'s online NHL CI schedule shows the Blue Jackets/Rangers om 772 and 772-1 as the Rangers feed. The DVR guide lists the game on 772 as the Blue Jackets/Rangers but the game on 772-1 is an "upcoming Jets/Wild" game when it's supposed to be the HD feed of the Blue Jackets/Rangers. I am recording the game manually on this station and also on MSG. I hope I get one of them in HD.
Any one notice Flames at Jets is not in the guide nor listed on the schedule on the directv website? It starts 4/11 at 3 p.m. and there is no coverage listed any where.
If I remember right, earlier in the week, NHL Network was planning to pick this up, but with both teams clinching a spot last night, it no longer appears on their web site.
Hopefully, CI will get this fixed in time.
Also, NBC is "regionalizing" Sharks v Kings and Wild v Blues, so out west, we'll miss the game that has some meaning!
Congrats, wilsonc, on a terrific season!
Would love to see you KO either the Blues or Ducks!
Edit: They'd better sort out Sens v Flyers Saturday as well!
FYI...isles-Pens blacked out on NHL Network, MSG or Root in upstate NY. NHL is just a lost cause...

Looking at Saturday's online Guide...
"To Be Announced" appears on channels 770, 771, 774, and 775.
As the CI schedule is usually - and I use that word loosely - chronological...
Sens v Flyers game should appear on either 770, 771, or both...probably only one feed.
Jets v Flames should appear on either 774 or 775, as I don't recall ever getting 2 Canadian feeds.
I've been a die hard Rangers fan since the Goyette - Nevin - Marshall line, but I'll admit I was cheering for the Sens last night, and would love to see them complete this amazing comeback. What a great story!
Edit: To Stoutman - I can't believe they have not been able to figure that out yet.
The Jets/Flames is going to be a national SportsNet broadcast, it's not a regional game where SportsNet West has the Flames and TSN3 has the Jets.
