I quite agree with this. The SD game between Montreal and Buffalo was worse than any signal I ever received claiming to be "digital". I actually remember getting better signal clarity form a rotating antenna while living in Buffalo ( you remember - the unit you used to turn by the TV and it rotated the antenna on top of the roof?)

First an foremost I want the HD signal if it's available. Period. I pay for the NHCI. I pay for the HD package. I paid for the HD receivers in my home to receive these signals. If anyone wants to make apologies as to why we should not be receiving the best signal available given our financial commitment to this relationship - then you're not on our side of the issue. Turn on the HD for those of us who are paying for it, or risk the exodus that will follow...

I know most of this has already been said, but here goes…….

As far as I know, both of todays games were being broadcasted in HD by the home teams RSN, which were both available in SD for NHLCI. Those people living in Ohio and Minnesota were both able to view the games in HD, via spotbeam, at no extra cost, because they live in that RSN’s region. The rest of the country, paying NHLCI subscribers, were only able to view the SD feed. The game could have easily been put on 94/95 (was this not done because of NFLST and bandwidth issues?) or on one of the subchannels in the 700’s. Both games were available in HD on E*.

As paying NHLCI subscribers, I think most of you will agree here is what we are looking for.

Provide BOTH feeds of a game that is being broadcasted, regardless if its in SD or HD or both, and regardless if its in the 700 or 600’s. Give the customer the choice of which feed they want to watch, as long as they live outside of both RSN’s regions, especially if they follow one team.

The 700’s are just a mirror image of the channel that’s already broadcasting in the 600’s, no extra bandwidth is being used. With the new subchannels, D* could put up to 4 games on one channel, for example,
    764 SD feed home team,
    764-1 HD feed home team
    764-2 SD feed away team
    764-3 HD feed away team

Provide any HD feed of the game, even if it’s the away feed.

Provide the CBC-HD feeds and the pre and post game shows. If E* and c* have it already, there is no reason why D* can’t provide it.

Basically, provide the same package that E* and c* subscribers are getting, at the same price we are paying.

However, after saying all of that, I do think things will get better in the coming months when it comes to HD games, we will see more HD games when more of the RSN's get put on conus.

    Thanks for reading.

No, I am not crazy, just a huge puck fan is all.

SD is so 20th century. I watched the Avalanche Wild game and it was similar to black and white broadcasts I used to watch few decades ago. At least some upconversion on 7xx-1 would have been better. And I think the game was available in HD somewhere. D* please, this is not a rocket science!
Actually D* did a good job in rocket/sat part, this is just the administrative kinks that needs to be ironed out. I am hopeful until December.
OT: how many games each team play against the same team in it's own division this year?

Avs/Wild was on FSN North in HD tonite...got it on channel 96 (I'm in the Twin Cities DMA) so yes, D* could have had it in HD if they had everything up. Looked good too.

To answer your OT question, this year the teams play each team in their own division 8 times, each team in the other divisions in their conference 4 times, and 1 game against each team in two of the divisions in the other conference. Confusing I know. The scuttlebutt is that next year this will change, with more games against the other conference.

I will cut D* some slack today for not doing HD on 94 or 95 since they obviously spend their sundays trying to find bandwidth for NFLST. That won't excuse them for not opening up blacked out national RSN's, but at least on Sunday's I don't expect special feeds.

There usually is not many nhl games played on Sunday's during football season...

Hopefully with more rsn's being added the hd games will be on the mpeg4 sat automatically woth no need for spot beaming to everyone's region... the game will just be there for any CI subscriber to watch in hd..... thumbs crosssed... but they probably will do a superfan thing next year to get more money ... just a guess...

I agree 100%. Excellent post indeed! It is just this simple...We just need to find out who is actually in charge of all of this. I've tried for a lot of years, but have never found out anything.. It's not that hard to understand...;)

Correct, but I'm sure that schedule was made a while back..We'll just have to wait and see. I did notice that there are a lot of "channel gaps" in the schedule after this past Saturday games, for instance on Thursday night:

Chicago Blackhawks at Boston Bruins 7:00 pm 764 HD765-1

New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers 7:00 pm 766

St. Louis Blues at Columbus Blue Jackets 7:00 pm 768

Toronto Maple Leafs at Pittsburgh Penguins 7:30 pm 769 HD769-1

Philadelphia Flyers at Tampa Bay Lightning 7:30 pm 770

Atlanta Thrashers at Nashville Predators 8:00 pm 771

Minnesota Wild at Edmonton Oilers 9:00 pm 772

Phoenix Coyotes at Anaheim Mighty Ducks 10:00 pm 774 HD774-1

Dallas Stars at Los Angeles Kings 10:30 pm 773 HD773-1

The "missing channels" above (765 and 767) correspond to the added ones that are now showing in the guide.

It's all speculation at this point, so we'll just wait and see.

From news articles I have seen they do have different contracts. Cable and satellite providers each have different contracts with the NHL. I have seen this before but never seen anything about them all having identical contracts.

Yes, I agree that the contracts would have some uniqueness to one another.
However, what each provider can show & can not show should be identical though. I can't see the NHL offering different products to the providers. After all it's called by one name...."NHL Center Ice" by all providers. Now if DirecTV called it "NHL Center Ice Lite" I could see that DirecTV was passing on a different product & we should not pay the same.
And if the products are different & we are not alerted to the differences...wouldn't this be a legal issue concerning the consumers?

You have got this exactly right. What upsets me is that I'm paying the same amount of money as Dish and Cable subscribers but I'm getting a lot less for my money.
