Do you have CI? If so, then you should have NHL HD regardless of your programming package. If you don't then you and the CSR are correct, you'll need to upgrade your package.

Well I just went back and was re-reading some of Satelliteracer's posts. I now think that to get NHL HD you do need to upgrade your package. CI will just get you the SD version. That doesn't seem right to me, but I think you're getting exactly what you should based on the programming you have. Usually if you have the HD access, then you'll get the HD version of all the SD channels you get. I guess NHL HD is the exception.

Which post from satelliteracer are you reffering to? I was looking for the answer to sd/hd question all morning for CI subscribers without the + package because HD is showing not purchased.

See his post quoted above. Post 226 of this thread. Granted, he does not come out and say that to get NHL HD you need the Choice Xtra, but from what I'm reading it seems you do.

Maybe send him a PM. He's west coast so should be getting into the office soon (if not already there). I'm sure he's getting lots of PMs these days, so I don't know how long it would take to get a reply. He's also been good at keep posting here to answer questions.

Satelliteracer: if customers have Choice (or the old Total Choice), CI and HD access, should they be getting NHL HD? Or just NHL SD?

    Lancaster,...
Does this explain why it looks as though only home games of the Rangers, Islanders, or Devils are produced in HD on MSG HD and FSN NY HD? It relates to the 'already there' fiber line from the arena going to the CV center?

So the reasons these teams may not be going HD for away games is cost of equipment transfer or rental as well as no backbone of sending the HD production back to CV?

How will NHL Network get the Rangers-Devils HD feed in a few weeks when this game is on??

Agreed!.. Dish shows "5" dual feeds tonight...Directv only "1".. All of these games are listed on RSN's that are already carried, so they have the feeds, they are just "choosing" which game(s) to dual feed....and there is plenty of room in the NHLCI range tonight to do it.....They do have a ways to go..;)

It will be interesting to see if the Rangers / Devils game is in HD.

If it does show up in HD, it would seem that there is a way to get the HD signal to Directv when they want to.

I still haven't given up on this MSG HD & FSN NY HD thing yet.

The way I figure if the logo is still on Directv's website there is a glimmer of hope.

I feel a little badly about complaining about the dual feed issue when they have made progress, but I also think that the main reason there has been any progress at all is because so many people have been vocal about the poor treatment hockey fans were getting from DirecTV.

What remains puzzling to me is how Dish can offer these and DirecTV can't. If Dish has access to dual feeds then they must be 'out there' to grab.

I can even understand DirecTV having problems showing dual feeds every night especially on nights when the schedule is a heavy one. But if you look at Friday's Schedule there are six games scheduled Dish has dual feeds for four of the games and DirecTV has none.

Again, I'm VERY grateful for the progress but there seems no reason why we can't expect this to improve further.

I just looked at the NHL Network Schedule and I don't see any Rangers / Devils games on it.

So I guess we will never know.

I understand were you are coming from concerning the complaining after the progress that has been made.

But we do pay $169 for the service and would only hope to have the same, or if not better, than what is offered by Dish Network.

The way I look at it is that Directv is only starting to catch up and I would hope that they will soon offer a product far superior to that of Dish Network. ( being the self proclaimed Leader of Sports Programing on Satellite.)

In response to a person receiving NHL SD but not HD, Satelliteracer posted this (post # 50) in the Channel 215 thread:

I have CI and can see NHL SD but get the 721 message for NHL HD. I tried "refresh services" and a reboot, but no luck. Guess there's a CSR call in my future.

My point all along to DirecTV has been we are paying the same money for a product that others are paying the same amount for but are getting more for their money. DirecTV's early response to this amounted to our product is what it is, take it or leave it. Since then they have stepped up and are trying to make it better.

All I'm saying is Please DirecTV keep going in a possitive direction.

    I agree !

I just hope for Directv's Center Ice package not to just equal the Dish Network product but to surpass it.

The question still left unanswered is: does CI and HD access get you NHL HD? We know it gets you NHL SD. It appears that NHL HD is tied to Choice Xtra+ or the old TC+ (assuming you have the HD access).

I am not sure about the original poster but I have old tc no plus package I have hd access and I subscribe to CI and the NHL Network in Hd is coming up channel not purchased but I receive sd no problem. I plan on calling about this when I get home from work but I know I will recive an un-educated reply for why this is happening and they will tell me I need to upgrade my package.

Yes I do, and I have the old TC package.

Indiana: my interpretation of Satelliteracer's comment is that CI alone gets you NHL network, and if you have HD access you'll get the HD version.

I've seen comments in one of the other NHL threads (can't find them at the moment) that suggest that CI subcribers would only get NHL network during the season, while Choice Extra subscribers would get it year round.

    To be continued...

Originally that's what I thought too, but now it appears either:

    1) Satelliteracer was wrong and CI & HD access will not get you NHL HD
    2) we misunderstood Satelliteracer's comment
    3) Satelliteracer did mean to say CI & HD access will get you NHL HD and there is a problem on D* end making this happen for people with packages below the Choice Xtra (or old TC+)

I don't know which of the 3 is correct.
