It's very clear why NHL is not the priority. MLB EI SuperFan is the reason. They promised 10 games a week in HD. If I were an EI SF subscriber I would be rippin' p***ed if hockey kept me from my baseball. Early season or not.

Basketball isn't as much the problem since most games are on ABC, ESPN, or TNT. All get their games in HD without 95. It is the occasional NBA.TV game that gets on channel 95.

Am I dissappointed, you bet. I am looking at this from the standpoint that I at least get to watch the game in some format. And when the game is in HD it is a good thing. Most of us who don't get our RSN's in HD have gotten maybe one or two HD games this entire season. I have seen more of my team in HD in the past two weeks than I did the entire regular season.

This season, I got 4 Isles games in HD. Two on HD Net, and one on Vs. (95) during the regular season. One on Vs. (94) during the playoffs. I really hope this gets better with the new Sats! (And I know all about the sordid history of the Dolans and Cablevision, so no need to rehash that, but I would gladly take the away feed in HD over the home feed in SD, even if I have to miss Howie and Billy. Well, maybe excepting Sabres games. Their play by play guy is pretty annoying. "And he wins the faceoff!!!!!!!!!!!! He wins the faceoff!!!!!!!!" Dude, enough! OK, and maybe the Penguins. As soon as anyone skates near Sid, they have a conniption. As in " ...and Crosby goes down, and play contunues..." Every bloody time. I hate that. Its a bloody contact sport. Contrary to NHL Official Policy, checking Sidney Crosby is not a penalty!) rant over

Yes you either love or hate Rick Jenneret the Sabres play by play guy. Though I find watching a hockey game without his call is almost unbearable. Gary Thorne is the only other announcer I ever liked. All the VS/NBC guys are terrible! The reason he seemingly never shuts up is because he's also the radio play by play guy so he has to be very descriptive for radio listeners. And there's nothing like dead air to make a radio listener turn the dial.

I spoke too soon. I have the Bulls game on Comcast Sportsnet instead (which is also being broadcast on ESPN) . Of those three, I'd prefer the (1) Ducks, (2) Angels/White sox, (1000) Bulls

I agree, even though the NHL is in the playoffs, and I am a huge hockey fan, believe it or not a meaningless Tampa Bay/KC Royals baseball game will get more viewers and more ad dollars the third week of the baseball season.

Hopefully, with the new birds, the bandwidth issue will go away and there will be more dedicated HD channels for sports programing instead of just the Yankee Channel, err ch 95.

Fair enough, I didn't know that. I'm a Howie Rose fan. He's the best I've heard.

I think it was shot by someone in the audience with a cell phone camera.

The nice thing is with the next round and finals we won't have to worry as much about non-HD feeds considering there will be less games. IMO, the NBC HD feeds on the weekend are the best quality using OTA.

Crowds in Anaheim have been a problem for quite a few years now. They have picked up with Anaheim's success, but there are still quite a few fair weather fans. Staples Center in LA has a problem where many corporate owned season tickets are vacant but they still count as "sold". I believe Anaheim has a bit of this same problem as well. The TV cameras (especially on the home team feed) don't want to show many empty seats. And, SoCal fans are notoriously late to games and first to leave which doesn't help.

Did you happen to catch any of the NJ Devils home games recently? Holy crap! Now that place was deserted.

Funny, I caught some of the NBC games this weekend (Sharks/Wings, and Sabres/Rangers), and some of the Ducks/Canucks game on Vs. HD. The Vs. HD picture was FAR SUPERIOR! The NBC picture pixelates often, and there is a video glitch that occurs every few seconds, where there is a line of pixelation located between the midway point and the top of the screen. This might just be a function of the awful quality of KRNV Reno. They don't even use 5.1 surround on their feed (Heroes and Raines, both in 2.0).

I hope the Sabres/Rangers game on Tuesday night May 1st will be in HD on channel 95. It is a Versus game.

It seems D* is listening to us hockey fans about showing the HD feeds - thanks D*!

There is no OTA in my area (I'm 60 miles from Reno). This was via D*.

Rather than rip D*, look at this statement on the Versus site:

    Conference Quarterfinals By Series

As part of VERSUS' wall-to-wall Stanley Cup Playoff coverage, we will be joining games
in progress and simulcast games from Canadian networks.

VERSUS QUARTERFINALS GAMES ARE IN HD EXCEPT THOSE BROADCAST ON THURDAYS AND FRIDAYS. NON-VERSUS BROADCAST GAMES THAT ARE JOINED IN PROGRESS MAY NOT BE IN HD.

Some people just are in the mood of ripping D* without knowing what they are talking about.

According to DirecTv's guide tonights Sabres/Rangers game on Versus will be shown in HD at &pm on 95.

I hope this is true, I hate the Versus announcers, but it will help me tolerate them if I can watch the game in HD.
