I had a appointment today for a 4K upgrade. The tech called and said there are no 4K installs being done in Michigan because of a software issue causing the C61k boxes to not work. I called Directv and they confirmed this to be the case. Anyone else heard this? They couldn’t tell me when a fix would happen.

No 4K installs in Michigan? If its a software issue presumably it would be a nationwide stoppage.

I found it really odd too. I was hoping someone here could shed some light on it.

I'm in southeast Michigan and have had the C61K since it was first available. The unit has been unstable since day 1 but software issues causing it to "not work" at all? That's news to me.

The current software for the C61K-700 is 0x0fba. My C61K-700 was updated to 0x0fba in December 2017 and I have not experienced any issues since receiving the update. I don't live in Michigan so unless the folks that do are on a different software version it's a puzzlement how this only effects Michigan residents.

I agree. It sounds crazy. Directv told me to call back in “a week and a half or so”. I thought for sure the installer was wrong but then Directv confirmed it.

I have tried upgrading two times to 4k in wisconsin. Each time the installer shows up and says don't do the upgrade. to many issues. They didn't know when the software issue will be resolved. So twice i have been refunded the upgrade fees.

If you want D* 4K programming, you don't really have a choice. But the installer was correct. The C61K is an unstable piece of garbage. I hate it. They rush an unfinished product out and the customers are their beta testers.

The dropout problems with the C61K have been around for a LONG, LONG time. Release after software release, I have seen zero improvement.
Personally I am impressed with their apparent decision to try to resolve the problem before installing more problems. 4K is great, but c61K hardware is sadly not yet ready for prime time.

What’s so amazing about this is that the C61k has been around for HOW long?

It's been out since 2015 - I think the Confusion may be with getting a 4K upgrade being with a HS-17 (GENIE) -they may have been delayed -NOT the C61K (per say)

But why just in Michigan? Unless they know they've had a bad shipment of C61k's that happened to get sent there (?)

    1-800-824-9077.

UPDATE- I rescheduled the install for today to see what would happen if I got another technician. Low and behold he had a HS17 and 2 C61k that he reluctantly installed for me.

What I can gather is this- the techs don’t like installing the 4K boxes because they are somewhat buggy and that triggers call backs for follow up service calls, which reflect badly on them and they don’t get paid for.

Now why Directv confirmed that no 4k installs were being done when I called is the most confusing part...obviously that wasn’t accurate.

So, the first service tech gave you a line of BS so he wouldn't have perform a install that "may" trigger a call back and the CSR you talked with on the phone out and out lied to you. That's why I always get their names and ID numbers. Tends to keep them honest and professional.

To be honest, ALL shipments of the C61K have been bad so far.
