I have a new HR24 with no sound on a Samsung Smart TV. Have tried it on other brands and sounds works fine. Tried it on two different model Samsung TVs and no audio. Directv service could not figure a solution. We switch HDMI cables and HDMI inputs. Attach a mini client (wireless) to the same Samsung and it works fine. Checked all the Audio options in both the HR24 and the Samsung settings and nothing works. The only work around Directv service could offer was to use RCA audio cables which means I have to take the TV off the wall, run wires behind the walls, etc. Probably easier to just exchange it for a mini client but I like the extra recording capabilities on the HR24. So has anyone had this issue with Samsungs and HR24s.

PS: It was working fine and stopped all of a sudden. So replaced old receiver with a new one with same results.

Which model Samsung TV are you using ?

Have you tried turning Dolby Digital OFF in the HR24 ?

Did you go into the settings on the TV and make sure the speakers are ON ?

I've got a JS 8500 65" Samsung TV and I'd suggest going into the menu and resetting to Factory Defaults. I had all kinds of goofy problems and doing that got rid of them all. Never had the same problem you're having, but...

Before you do that, try what Jimmie suggested.

A 24-100 and an HR44-700. No problems with either. The TV is kinda goofy, tho.

I have no idea why you're not getting sound from the 24, do you have other devices hooked up to the TV? Have you tried resetting to factory defaults?

It is crazy. I have an apple tv and it works fine. In fact I hook a Directv mini client to the same TV and it works fine. So i can use a mini client but I wanted the HR24 for the additional recording capabilities. I ask Directv is they had any other HD DVRs other than the HR24 and they said no. They are only sending out HR24s and genies.I have not tried resetting the defaults but I will.

Wow. That TV has screwed up some devices that ran perfectly on my Panny plasmas, but I've never experienced what you have. Don't know what else to say other than to do the "reset to defaults" thing. Doing that cured several problems I had, but I kinda doubt it will solve yours. Can't hurt to try.

I am having similar/same problem. I have an HDR-21 connected to an HD Samsung TV and audio works fine. Connected all wires and connections to the new Samsung 4k TV and audio no longer works from the same HDR-21. AppleTV, PC, Blueray player all work fine to TV which is sending sound out to Sonos sound bar. But, I get no sound from anything from the DTV (Sonos sound bar OR internal speakers on TV).

Again, the same HDR-21 works to the non-4K tv, just not the 4k tv. And all other devices sound work fine to the same Samsung Connector for the 4k tv, to the speakers.

I just bought a Samsung 55" KU7000 4k TV 3 weeks ago and my sound is going from the HR24-100 to the TV using the HDMI and TV speakers or going thru my Yamaha surround sound AVR using an Optical cable from the HR24-100 .
So far I have not had any problems with sound.

Also, have you checked this setting in the TV ?
    Set Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) ( Settings System Expert Settings Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)) to Off.
