I have the HR21 and every once in a while it doesnt record the program even though it shows as recorded. When I went to watch Nip/Tuck on Wednesday, the program was in my list, but all it played was a green screen. What could be causing this?

Not the only reason, but since this was a "local" channel, it might have been on their end and not your DVR.
I had a CBS show record the "don't call us we know we're having technical problems" for an hour.

Some on here have reported that sometimes that the HR2X receive a bad guide data stream and that causes the failure to record properly.

I can honestly say I have never encountered that malady. Usually a bad recording can be linked back to me:)

But where would the "green screen" come from if it was "the guide" issue?
With the OP. it did record.

The green screen does throw me there as if it was truely a guide issue it would have either not recorded or gone right to the keep/delete option......maybe weather in the area. MPEG-4 doesnt like bad weather right?

To quote a movie, (and if any one can tell me which one I'll say congrats) "If you think you can do better then do it, cause I'm just spit balling here..."

Was it FX or FXHD? And were you watching another channel at the same time?

<snickers>... you said "tape it". does the HR21 model use VHS for storage? :D

how about an option for an external array of betamax tapes. hehe.

The green screen sounds like some kind of HDMI handshake issue to me. To the OP, if you turn things off (the TV and receiver if you're using one) and back on again, then try to play the show does it still show a green screen?

It's what drew me into this thread. Maybe an HR22 with big spools of data tape.

I always say tape. Shows my age! I RECORD it on FXHD. It has happened twice but when I record it on another night, it is fine. It is definitely recording, the program is just not visible (no sound either). I have rebooted the DVR as well and it didnt make a difference.

Are you sure it wasn't a light gray screen, and your color settings are a bit off? If your pillarbar color is set to gray, then that what you will get when you experience the "Unwatchable" bug. See the thread linked by Throckmorton three posts up.
