The mayor is an idiot.
And worth $27 billion. Not bad
He should take some of that and buy himself some common sense ... the non-sugary kind, of course.
If the mayor passes a law that requires businesses to spend money to make changes... and then that law is challenged and blocked... can those businesses demand the mayor reimburse them for the unnecessary expenses?
Some places made changes to their menu as well as ordering more cups... Some changes might not have cost money... but others might cause them to spend more money to revert the changes.
... and we know he has the money.
They certainly can go after city council.
That is a good point ... the mayor did not do this alone. Despite the portrayal in the media, he is not the dictator of New York.
Sorry, should have said can't. It didn't go through council, it was done through the health department, which is why restaurants were affected, but the 7-11 Big Gulp was exempt. They aren't under the control of the Health Department.
In theory, perhaps not, but in reality, maybe he is. As the post below explains, it wasn't a city council ordinance/law. Instead, Mayor Know-it-All appointed the board of health commissioners then told them to institute this ban, which a judge slapped down, thank God.
