Having some issues with my HR34, and the CSR in retention offered to ship me another Genie, and I know that can't specify a certain model, so was wondering if anyone might have an idea if they're mostly shipping the HR44 now or not, or would it still be a crap shoot? Just curious.

Right now she has a service call set up, and she said I could try and work that out with the tech, which I think is a better bet, but I could always have one shipped, if they're shipping 44's.

Just curious what some of you think.

Based on recent reports here, the chances probably aren't even that good.

Probably a better chance with a service call.

Have you checked the thread where people have received 44's? See if your location is listed.

It's after the fact, but if you were talking to retention, you should have asked them if you could order a unit from a third party dealer and be given credit from DirecTV to cover the price.

I haven't seen that thread, no. If you could link me to it, it would be most appreciated. I'm in Northern California, about 2 hours north of San Francisco.

Also.....not too sure how that would go with the credit, as I'm in contract, and already have a 34. Might be worth a try though.

I also know the phone # for the hub where the installers in my are get their equipment, so I could call them and see if they are rolling with 44's.

I called and they set up a service call for two days later.
When the tech arrived he looked at my problem with my HR 34 and he said there was two options, one was to replace the HR 34 with the HR 44 or do a complete reset of the HR 34 which he thought was a lost cause! Naturally I chose the HR 44! Love it.
A hour later, the HR 44 was installed and up an running .

I had an issue with my HR-34 and they sent a tech out to look at it. He said they have had issues with HR-34's and didn't even look at it - just swapped it out with a brand new HR-44. He said they don't even carry HR-34's on their trucks any more. Maybe it's just in my area - who knows!!!

About 3 months ago, I had an HR-34 installed. I was hoping for a HR-44 but the installer put in a HR-34. Needless to say, the receiver never worked correctly from day one. There was audio dropouts, programs not recording, the receiver freezing and the necessity to hit the red reset button to correct issues. Complaints were finally escalated to the case management team and just yesterday, an installer replaced the HR-34 and an HR-44. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but from what I've been reading on the forums, having an HR-44 might not be the panacea that I'm looking for. I'll post updates as required.

You're right: There are no panaceas! But the reports seems to indicate there are fewer problems with the 44s than the 34s.
