I don't really care who you are or who you work for. I wouldn't let the pope be at home alone with my wife it isn't proper. Maybe some people think I'm old fashoned but I think some of those old rules just make good sense.

Did they drop the channel for good, or pull it to try and get leverage in a contract dispute? There is a difference.

    (welcome to the d* forums!)
Yeah, gdn is trying to corner the market on being an ass.

I don't know how things are in the Dish forums, but the dtv forum is full of folks who attack anyone who speaks ill of the sacred d*.

I'm going to assume that someone just peed in your Wheaties this morning and ignore this response. :)

The installer finally showed up. His install job was okay... maybe a B- on an A-F scale. He dressed the cables up nicely but punched extra holes to avoid too much work. He wasn't very knowledgeable, but most installers are not and really don't need to be. It works and I'm happy.

As others have mentioned, it doesn't matter that he's probably a nice guy. Most men aren't easy about their wives and children being unsupervised and alone with strange men they've never met. Wal-Mart is a public place. My home is not.

The misinformation isn't as bad as you might think it is.

I used to be with Dish until their little spat with Viacom. I haven't seen any channels yanked either...BUT I have had many missed recordings on my HR-20 and my locals like to disappear from time to time. Apparently the missed recording problem has been around for some time.

I called d* to get some service and was advised that the missed recordings were a "known issue", they were working on it, and because it was a "known issue" they WILL NOT REPLACE THE RECEIVER (despite the fact that I bought a protection plan to cover issues like this). This was 3 months ago and I missed 2 recordings last week. Despite the retarded practice of not making service calls to replace equipment on "known issues", I was able to get a fair arrangement. The CSR agreed that I would get a refund of my DVR fee from the point in time I reported the issue up to the point that the issue is resolved. To attempt to enforce some kind of accountability from them, I asked my CSR to read the note on my account confirming this commitment.

Its good that you haven't seen it on any of your or your family's HRXX. That suggests that the issue is hardware related (not S/W as d* claims). The issue is real - I've been stung too many times coming home from a hard late shift and wanting nothing more than to settle down on the couch with a fresh beer and watch my favorite shows only to be bitch slapped by a blank screen.

I'm not trying to protect D* at all - I've had a few issues of my own. My whole point is that someone comes here slamming D* - because he made a decision that he regrets by switching from his original deal with D* to calling a local installer.

And on the other hand - I don't blame anyone for not wanting their kids and wife alone when a stranger comes into the house. I'm very OK with someone wanting to be protective and they should - just shedule the appointment when you can be home and be done with it. I'm sorry the installer wanted to make sure he was safe and missed an appointment because he didn't know how icy the roads were outside.

I'll admit - I read a little too much into the part of the post about not wanting to leave the wife and kids at home with a stranger - figuring he was responding to the recent news about the D* installer which committed a crime. My fault if I read too much into that - but what I'm saying about that is while you should take all precautions you can to be safe - you can not put yourself in a bubble as you will come into contact with past criminals or future criminals many times in your life and you can't always control those situations.

The perfect example of that occurred last night in Dallas. While not proven yet - it is suspected that an ex Utah state trooper robbed a pharmacy - then shot 4 people killing 2. While apparently this man has had some mounting problems I don't think anyone would have suspected he was capable of that kind of crime and many people very much would have trusted him knowing his past workbackground and being a friendly neighbor and good dad. So you just really never know good or bad in other people or what situation might occur to change a person.

It is even worse over there. Both sat providers have their glitches. They are just different glitches. I left dish about 2 years ago because of constant audio breakups and there are long fresh threads about this same problem. Directv was much cheaper for all the hd dvr's I need (8) and has more of the programming I prefer (football), so I deal with their glitches. No tv company is best for everybody. This website is great to determine the best fit and to find solutions/work arounds for the glitches that we experience.

I also wouldn't let my installer in my house with just my wife when I'm not around. It isn't that I don't trust the installer. I don't trust my wife! :p

That's just not true. I said the whole thing was off to a bad start because the installer canceled not once - but twice - and really a third time, since he delayed the last one by about four hours.

I apologize if I wasn't clearer on that, but the other posters seemed to understand what I was saying.

Agree. I never let anyone in my house I don't know if I'm not there. My wife, kids, and grand-sugars are the most important persons in my life!!

This is differnent than what Dish does? Contract dispute, contract ends, stop service until new contract is made. Only channels gone for good, from Dish are the now Bankrupt, Voom. Channels so worthy that Direct didn't even add them.

Can't say it never happens to a dish person. Granted it happens alot less, as the complaints about it don't even compare to Direct. Dish doesn't have to put out several NR of firmware to address a widespread problem like that, several times. How does one channel surf with Direct without bringing up the Guide filled with advertisment banners that bring things to a slow crawl, seems to be faster, but its still slow when you have a ViP sitting right next to it(also thanks to those who should me how to turn off the VERY annoying Bong everytime you push a button, but aren't in the PROPER part of the guide menu). Onscreen Browsing, Channel guide that works(Doesn't show all the channels I don't get) no marketing gimiks in the guide that screws it up either, trying to get me to buy new channels, DLB, PiP, Autotune, no advertisments in the guide, archive support for EHD, that allow you to move it any DVR in your account, and watch the shows.( I travel alot, and find this one very useful, for some not as useful though). No NR firmware that reformats the external HD, by accident. 60 min buffer that doesn't get wiped out accidently cause somebody didn't know show was delayed. No buffer that gets wiped out cause the NFL has stopped broadcasting on that channel, and you end up missing the last part of a game.

Both providers have issues. Dish normally surrounds how they talk dollars with the providers that they want to carry and who want to be provided for them. Direct and I know there are some, who from Day one have NEVER had a problem with a HR2x, reviews, postings, Firmware updates, hardware Reviews, show that they were a minority, all of hard work by Direct to work on fixing issues, shows thier were lots of issues as well, for the last 2 yrs, it seems to have paid off though, and hats off to Direct for working on it so hard, on creating a more stable product now.

I for one, hope they can fix the UI so its more friendly and as easy to use as the ViP series. Every year about August, I start looking at the offers all over again for NFLST, the only thing I want that Direct has. Problem is I have to sell the family on it, not only myself, you have to pick your battles sometimes. UI is always a killer in this house, and DLB is becoming an issue, as its a feature that gets used every single day, starting in the morning from catching the local news to having Sunrise Earth going on for the kids, as they get ready for school.

So bash Dish all you want, but don't ignore all the postings, Site reviews, all the Firmware updates, that show there were and still are problems with the hardware. Or all the people that point out how much more stable it is now vs when it 1st came out.

This is nothing like what Dish does. Dish just drops the channels.
