My bad. Thanks for the topless pics. They look good. Definately alot of open space in that unit.

I had a strong feeling it was going to be like this inside. There's no way a dual ATSC tuner system would take up that much space.

I think it's safe to say the box has good air flow. :)

Thanks Earl. It's almost an empty

I mentioned in another thread that I heard on the news this evening that the FedEx hanger in Memphis was damaged by the tornado today. I hope no one was injured and the AM21s are still on the way.

I expected it to be slightly smaller, based on the size of the HDHomeRun dual tuner ATSC/QAM widget.

The HDHomeRun uses an external DC transformer, while the AM21 has all of the power conversion parts inside it. So that basically makes up for the size difference.

Heh ... all DIRECTV needs to do is divide the inside of the case, have an easy open hidden latch for the cover, and the AM21 is a good place to store valuables ... watches, jewelry, etc. :)

Now here's a question I'm sure someone will ask after the First Look is released ...

How much cheaper would the AM21 be if the case was smaller? There would be less metal used for the case, but I'm not sure that there would be a huge difference in savings.

Unless the thief considers the DirecTV equipment valuable. Then he gets a nice surprise...

The cost difference would be so negligible that it's not even worth mentioning. We're talking fractions of a cent. As far as raw materials goes, I'd be absolutely shocked if the AM21 costs more than $20. $10-$15 is probably more reasonable.

Now I wonder if the cost is negligible then why take the OTA out of the hr21 series? Really is it about saving the money on it, or did they think it caused some of the heat in the hr20 series? I know that sounds dumb. but seeing it woth it's "top off" makes me look at that. Any opinions. It's just a question but what do you think?
