I figured it was implied that I mean "garbage" channels to me. Mostly I mean the shopping channels and infomercial channels. I have almost all of the other channels other than the religious ones in my personal favorites list. Not sure why you took it so personally. I am one of the most tech savvy people here and know exactly what favorites lists are for and that they are "personalized" and what that word means.

It sure didn't look like HD this morning. Very soft picture. Looked upconverted on my Panasonic Viera plasma.

Might have been the show you are watching. Pre-2009 Doctor Who episodes were not filmed in HD, so they are upconverted from wide screen 576i. (A 16:9 PAL resolution) The channel itself is 1080i and newer Doctor Who episodes are in full HD.

He was referring to BBC World News... which doesn't appear to be HD.

Ah that could very well be, I have not watched World News yet. I always tend to catch that at my local PBS station.

No. I watched it the first day. It was not quite full screen and soft. Was not just a zoomed version of SD as there was more real estate on the sides but was more like a partial zoom.

The early Doctor Who doesn't look a much soft as ragged. The news did look soft.

The PQ looked worse than my local FOX affiliate's widescreen SD newscast... and the aspect ratio looked similar to TNG episodes.

    Strange...

I used to watch BBC in SD and they seemed to have more good programming then (granted, that was years ago) than they do now. NetFlix is loaded with British programs. MI-5 is one of the best shows I've seen in years, just watched all ten seasons on NetFlix.

The aspect ratio is the one that confused me. PQ was better than SD channel but the picture seemed wider without stretching. Agree. Odd.
