I have an old stand alone receiver that is HD and I use it but I think I need to have it replaced. If I call customer service and ask for a replacement will that start a NEW 2 year agreement and what is the fee with NO protection plan?

do it wise way: state it's dead, follow all procedures what they will ask..."nothing coming from it :(" … "no one LED turning on :(" … etc

Is it a Directv brand receiver? If so, just tell them it won't even boot up, doesn't do anything. They should send a replacement with at most a $20 shipping charge. It's possible they will want to send a tech to your home. If it isn't a Directv receiver, I doubt they will be able to help you at all.

Directv doesn't make you extend your commitment to replace a broken receiver. But do as suggested and tell them it won't even turn on. Otherwise they will waste a bunch of your time trying various things, and it isn't worth it if it is as old as you say. They'll just ship you a new one and probably tell you to recycle the old one.

Unless that H21 is broke, it will work just like an H24 which is what they would replace it with.
I have had an H21 and 3 H24s. The 21 lasted much longer than the H24s.

That's interesting. I would have thought the H24s would be the better choice. The HR21s weren't nearly as good as the HR24s.

I think the H21 lasted from 2009-2017. Since then we have had 2 and now on the 3rd one.
All have been on a UPS for power.
