Not sure how true that is for everybody. I see "lemming behavior" in some aspects of society. But in this case only, I think it's true, it's a choice each of us has to make.

6'1" here. I'd like the Volvo SUV equivalent to my S90 for ease of exit, but the WAF won't allow it - "They look too much like a station wagon!"

That's what stopped me from trying the service, I knew committing to a year wouldn't work well.

Aww, now I want a Tablo so I can try that. I guess it's possible? How does that compare to a D* HR?

You missed the point and took it in an entirely odd direction..... When the big boys start to de-fluff then I suspect the shift has taken greater hold

I understand why you've done it. I wish I could. I called the other day looking for the ST at no cost (for the life of me I cannot say "free") and was told all I could get was $20 a month in credit. No commitment. CSR was shocked when I turned it down. Told her I wasn't done playing CSR Roulette, she seemed to understand. You get the credit, your chances of getting the ST diminish.

You don't know how lucky you are. Being this tall is a never-ending PITA. When I started driving I had to pull the seat up in every car I drove. Now I have to put the seat back as far as it will go in just about every car I can afford.

I’m not nearly as tall as either of you guys. I was 5’11” for many years but now that life has beat me down for 76 years I’ve shrunk to 5’10”!! :)

I’ve got a 2019 Rogue Hybrid, it has got the best damned seats I’ve ever put my butt into. For quite a few years any road trip left my back aching, but not with this one. They are heated but not cooled, which is fine with me. And plenty of room in it, even for those in the back seats.

    :D

I prefer the interface, but that's subjective. It simply sets up and records season passes for OTA only - whatever my antenna can pick up. As for quality, it's at least as good as DTV in that you can choose what quality you want to save your programs in, as well as the quality to stream those programs to your devices.

Because the Roku's or ATV's at all of our TVs are 'hard wired' (not using wifi for these), I have the settings on the Tablo set for 1080i on both recording and streaming (the max), so I see what the station is putting out. If I wanted to stream to my devices outside the home, I would likely have to cut down the streaming setting a little.

Right now, we're only using it for two shows (remember, I got it for locals dispute situations). I tape Highway Patrol off one of the Boston sub channels not provided by DTV, and my wife tapes her soap from a Providence local (also not provided by DTV) when our esteemed governor holds his interminable Covid press conference on the Boston NBC affiliate during Days of Our Lives and the RI governor is not. We're lucky in that we're halfway between the two markets and my antenna picks up both.

As for the HDD, I chose the model with an external USB port, so I can connect any USB HDD to it. I'm currently using a 1TB Samsung SSD.

Btw, if I find YTTV's quality for my Patriots games sub par, I can watch them OTA using my Tablo.

The only steaming services I have now is Amazon Prime and Criterion Channel. Otherwise, I'm building up my library of material on my Plex server.

I remember how they did that -- they gave the front seat adjustment sliders almost a foot of travel. This was great as long as there weren't any humans in the rear seat (carpool dummies may need to have thier legs amputated). Couple that with having your tailbone about 2-1/2" from the floor pan and they could technically fit a tall person.

Fast forward to today and the Accord weighs 50% more, cannot be had with a manual transmission and has 2" less of front passenger leg room. Of course the Accord is no longer Honda's high-zoot model like it was before Acura.

De-fluff or die. That is the decision. DISH is a big company that offers skinny bundles via satellite and approached streaming with the same attitude. A choice of two core packages plus add ons. Choose your own fluff.

The point is people have a choice and the people in this thread suggesting streaming have considered their options carefully. They don't need fluffy TV.

For me, it's a simple equation. I have to have NFL Sunday Ticket. All the other reasons on why I can't or don't want to go 100 % streaming have been checked off. Even though I live in rural Iowa, I have fiber optic and a rock solid 250/100 connection. My Asus mesh setup has excellent wi-fi coverage thru my home. There are very few "must have" channels for us. But, only DirecTV has Sunday Ticket and I am unwilling to give that up. I suspect if or when there is a streaming option for the NFL, there will be others like me that will consider jumping ship on DirecTV. I have had it since September 1994 and it would be a change but the equipment fees and nickel and dime charges are getting to be ridiculous.

My understanding is it's available only to students and those who cannot receive a sat signal.

They opened it up a little more but it isnt widely available.. it is only 29 markets and still address based. I suspect they are qualifying addresses as home or something else because it seems like the same restriction holds you have to not be able to get Directv

Yup. Absolutely no room in the back seat when I was in the driver's seat. The back seat was rarely used, fortunately. I looked at the Hondas a few years ago, could not fit in any model, sedans or SUVs. Even that hearse looking Odyssey had little room. Same thing with the Acuras. The choices I've seen so far that have decent legroom: Ford 150, Yukons, Tahoes, Ford Expeditions. I suppose I could live with a Telluride or a Palisade but the legroom both models list don't seem to be true, I felt rather cramped in both.
