My father-in-law tried to order an AM21 and they wouldn't let him have it. They said he lives where he gets all locals. I had no problem getting one a few months ago.

I received the HR22 even when the Tech requested an OTA DVR replacement. The issue with the previous DVR (HR20) was with the signal from 101 that has not been corrected with this replacement. However it was a free upgrade so I purchased the AM21 OAT that has fantastic turners. I really just use this DVR for Local Channels and FX HD & Speed HD that are presently not available from DISH, my other service provider. I purchased my AM21 back in October from ABT for a little over $50 and have been very pleased.

hr20-700 went bad in oct 07 , so they thought , tech came out on sunday afternoon to re align everything , LNB had moisture in it , so he changed everything out , then could not get the 700 to re set , he forgot that on sundays due to the ticket , you would not get any down loads till after 9 pm .
so he left me with a hr20-100 , then discovered it , and would not let me try my 700 again ....
then the 100 went bad in november Tuner 2 issue ....
all in all the hr23-700 seems slower or hangs ups during station change , other then that i can tell no difference. the am21 seems to work just fine .

You may still recieve an HR20. I called 3 weeks ago about a box problem and they sent an HR20 Refurb, I had another problem last weekend and the installer came out and swapped in a new HR-23.

    Well,

I got a HR20-100 replacement. So I ended will not need the AM21 I ordered from ABT. But I am glad I bought it. I figure at some point this HR20 will go, and I will likely need get a box without OTA. At that point, who knows how hard it will be to get one from Directv. So I'll just store it away for when I do need it.

The replacement seems to be in good working order....we'll see how it goes. At least it does buzz from vibration like my old one did. I'm ok with another HR20 though. My TV has been ISF calibrated and while the 21, 22, and 23's most likely output the same video levels....you never know. So really this is ideal for now.

    Peachtree...

Tell him to call back and if they REFUSE then tell them to connect you to "Customer Retention" and they will let you have it.

Never let a Level One CSR tell you anything because they just read from a SCRIPT!!!
