It has been reported here that D* has decided to provide OTA guide data (and therefore the ability to even receive, on ANY MPEG4 D* OTA capable IRD) for full-power digital stations only.

Which is a public dis-service, since in some areas digital low-power and translator stations carry the "major" networks...and not just shopping, religious, Spanish language, etc. channels.

Wow, I must have missed that info. That really sucks. Especially since that station is the only way for satellite customers in that area to get FOX in HD. Well, I suppose they could always switch back to cable, which is what I will probably recommend to people in that area who have access to cable.

Or, just feed the OTA antenna directly into their HDTV. Yeah, I know you'll miss out on the benefits of a DVR. But, at least you can watch live HD programming.

I'm no fan of the policy either, there are plenty of "big four" affiliates that are using LDs.

    Folks,

Is there any interest or value in our publishing all the OTA data stream information as a part of, or perhaps in addition to, our regular TPN Map postings?

We posted the OTA data several times, with no positive feedback; and have had no requests for it since we stopped.

It would be interesting to see what is hidden, with the LPD thread and markets having those channels disappear, might just be a switch flip by DirecTV.

    Here's a new one:

    Milwaukee 36-2 (WMVT2) is duplicated.

New subchannel info states on info banner and message on bottom:

"MPTV will return Jan/2011 in HD."

Never saw this kind of message before.

Hey guys, does anyone know what zip code contains channels 57-1 & 44-1 in the OTA reception as per the AM21 tuner? Or is there a quick way to find out which zip codes carry these two channels. I want to use the secondary zip code entry in the AM21 so I can pick these two up!!

PS I tried searches here and on the net for Tribune ....the company responsible for the zip code = channel mapping, but I came up empty.

    thanks

For those who are interested, the attached Excel spreadsheet provides all 4,012 OTA channels recognized by DIRECTV.

The data is current as of 9/8/2010.

Thanks gct! I was just looking for that information today. I recently installed an antenna in my attic and was curious what OTA stations were in D*'s guide data (thinking about an AM-21).

I appreciate the work on this.

D* still has not fixed this. The station engineer says that he notified D* also. Still showing as KBAKDT2 58-2 and not KBFXDT 58-1. (SD vs HD) I'm sure if they stopped their simulcast there may be a lot more complaints to the customer service desk.

DTV still has not added 58-1 to the available channels on the AM21. Just went through the setup again and it's NOT there. What gives? DTV will not add locals in HD to this market AND will not add an available OTA HD channel for access through an AM21. Thanks for caring DTV.

My understanding is the data comes from zap2it. I just looked and 58.1 isn't listed on zap2it.

Try contacting them first to see if that solves the problem.

    Hope this helps you out.

Here is what the station engineer told me:
I have contacted the technical side. They mentioned a 2-3 week process. Legal approval then a field engineer study. I hope before thanksgiving this will be done.

Seems a little ridiculous for D* to not put these stations up quicker. It is listed on the TitanTV site. Fortunately they are going to leave the duplicate feed up.

We are still missing our PBS stations in the mappings also.

Check zap2it and report it to them. If I remember correctly this will move the process along. A field engineer study sounds odd, since the station already exists.

    Check http://www.zap2it.com/

Hopefully the big problems the Tribune Company is having will not effect zap2it and our tv listings.
