Trying to figure out why just a single OTA USB to Coax adapter wouldn't use the internal 16 tuners of the Hopper 3. Why would you have to use an AirTV Dual-Tuner Adapter to watch a local channel and record another at the same time?

The adapter contains the OTA tuner(s) for the broadcast frequencies that OTA TV signals use. Those frequencies are not the same as the satellite frequencies the internal Hopper tuners use.

Why else do you think satellite delivered locals are such a big deal ?

In case you hadn't made the connection yet - the USB tuner is an OEM version of an ATSC tuner that can plug into your computer.
