I have 3 HR24's that I purchased from Solid Signal 8 years ago, and they replaced 3 HR20's that I was leasing from DirecTV. Does this mean I own the HR24's, or is there something else I need to check?
In my opinion, the lease info needs to be prominently displayed on the main product page rather than buried under a separate tab. I can guess why it is not though.
Chrome. On my cell and tablet. I don't even have a features tab.
I have a Documents, Specs and Product Reviews. The Leased paragraph is three paragraphs below the QTY and Add to Cart buttons.
Last thumbnail is at the bottom of my scroll showing the three Tabs that are displayed to me. And Features isn't one of them. Which is different than on a Chrome desktop.
Can someone explain how they are leased? If I go buy a receiver from Bob's electronics down the street, I hand him the cash and walk out. There isn't anyplace where I sign or agree to any lease.
Yeah, if you would buy it to use as paperweight or doorstop or boat anchor. Or FTA receiver.
For its main purpose you MUST activate it ! So your rhetoric is meaningless.
I bought two different DIRECTV boxes from big box stores: Best Buy and (I think) CompUSA.
I remember specifically that with the Best Buy purchase, there was a long agreement printed on the receipt. Part if it said I had X days to activate the box or I'd have to pay more money.
Never sure they would have collected it, but I bought the box to activate it and use it, so I never got to that point.

I bought one at BB locally and the girl behind the counter told me nothing and I signed nothing. Cash transaction. My point was that you own the receiver up until the point you sign an agreement saying otherwise. I have had a fair amount of experience dealing with lease agreements for businesses.
I don’t know if what I was told by the supervisor in retention is true, but during my argument with her about the $299 I had to pay for the HR54 in order to get a unit from SS she stated it was leased but if I wanted to own one they could ship me one for $499.
I declined the ludicrous price and payed the $299.
The confusion for me comes down to the price. None of these units could possibly cost DTV the prices they lease them for. I doubt an HR54 from China cost $299. Directv seems to be operating on the moral edge when it comes to leasing. I could easily see a judge forcing them to stop this practice and also force them to authorize any unit that is still in working order.
People have posted here before that if they "buy" a receiver from Solid Signal to get what they want, they have called Directv and got them to credit them for that charge (presumably only those who would have been eligible to get the receiver free from Directv)
Whether that still works with AT&T in charge, who knows.
They already have with me, in the last 6 or so months. Things have changed drastically, and it includes changes with access cards in those too, or non-existent in those........
