Thank you for your hard work Stuart. Thanks for allowing what has mostly being a positive discussion. It also saddens me when people can't disagree with each other w/out personal attacks.

Probably true. But our annual bill increase is usually around 4% and some of these programmers have gotten double digit rate hikes, so D* has been forced to swallow some of these costs.

It would be great of they could launch some of these new channels like Pac-12 as a la carte (or even PPV) and let those who want it pay for it. I would gladly pay $10-$20 for a few big games. But I suspect that option may not fall into someone's business model....

PAC-12 would never agree to that. Far too small a pool of potential subscribers. They need as many eyeballs as they can get.

Wife hit the roof when she realized her Ducks were not available on Directv last night. This and the Lakers contract better be taken care of soon. We can go with Dish Network, Cox, or UVerse. So we have options.

Well, your options are limited if you value HD picture quality however. That eliminates both DISH and U-Verse.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet hasn't even launched yet.

I'm still in shock over Dish getting this.

Considering past precedent, the PAC-12 network must have bent over backwards to bring them onboard, while the normally apathetic Dish network must have saw an opportunity for them to actually carry this network. The entire Dish/PAC-12 deal is so out of place that I'm still shaking my head.

I really hope DirecTV and the PAC-12 can reach a consensus this year.

At this point it's the content that matters, not the quality of the picture. Any HD picture is better than watching an event on a laptop, which is what we've been forced to do for two weeks now.

According to the pac 12, they offered the exact same deal to Directv. They turned it down.

They can't claim to be offering identical deals when one includes exclusives. Well, they can...but that doesn't make it true.

Like the Viacom situation, I don't think either side is telling us the hole story. I think the deal they are offered is similar to what Dish took, but probably not identical.

It can't be exact, because Dish gets the advertising rights in P12 venues. That's got to be a huge monetary stipulation.

I also think the lowest package that Directv might allow it in is the Choice Ultimate and above or sports pack. Which the pac 12 wants nothing to do with.

Money difference has to be in the package Directv wants to put it in and what package pac 12 wants it in.

Not disagreeing at all, but could you please outline and perhaps quantify that? Worth $1MM or 10MM or.....?

This actually confuses me. The PAC 12 owns advertising rights in college stadia and arenas? I can't wrap my head around that one. Colleges usually sell all their own advertising. Or is just that Dish gets called the official satellite provider of the PAC 12? Basically that meaningless thing the Olympics do. If the latter, that would piss off directv and mean the PAC 12 would have to give more in a deal with directv.

I go to a ton of college sports, mostly Big Ten but others as well. Other than conference logo, I've seen precious little that was conference owned advertising. It also raises the question of if the conference cleared this with the colleges. Did they have some rights in advance to sell or are they imposing something?

Sure blurs that supposed line of who the Cal AD works for, doesn't it?

Prices aren't out there, but I believe Dish's press release mentions they have it.

If Arizona keeps playing like they did last night, I'll want this channel even more.
