Pac-12 Networks confident, even without DirecTV

I think the way the conference sold it to the schools was that having channels essentially dedicated to pairs of teams would allow them to carry all the minor sports. If stuff like volleyball, lacrosse, gymnastics, swimming and so forth had live coverage of all their events maybe they felt it could help with recruiting. It doesn't sound like the coverage was as universal as it was originally planned to be - probably turned out to be a lot more expensive to do that than the conference originally thought.

Even on dedicated networks like BTN there are repeats since they don't cover enough minor sports to fill the channel with original content. A school like OSU that has 35 sports could probably fill a channel all by itself if everything was covered, but doing so would be a significant cost. The six networks are already a sunk cost for Pac 12 so they probably don't want to get rid of them, but maybe they've become more realistic about their miminal appeal even to people in the Pac 12 region. Those who really want to see them will be able to stream them.

@SwanniOnTV: Guessing (not predicting) DIRECTV adds Pac 12 Net on Wednesday. Day before season opens and satcaster likes to add channels on Wednesdays.

It makes perfect sense for everyone but dish and directv. The idea was one channel nationally and one locally that had even more specific stuff for the two schools each channel covers, with all of it eventually being seen on the national channel via repeats.

And all sports channels have plenty of repeated, that's not surprising. And during the summer all college stations have a lot repeats because there are not many sports going right now anyway.

Except for that whole little thing about recent additions happening on various days so there's no real set day for debuts, in the past year only two additions actually happened on a Wednesday:
    Reelz/Ovation - Friday, September 26
    MTV2 - Monday, December 22
    Fusion/Longhorn - Wednesday, January 21
NBC Universo - Friday, January 30
    BBC World News/WE/Sundance - Friday, March 6
Fox Deportes - Wednesday, May 13
Nick Jr - Monday, June 1
    XtraHD - Monday, August 17

Last night the programming was different on each of the six regional channels, and none of that was on the national channel. There were seven different programs being shown at the same time. Although programming is often duplicated, that is not always the case.

My grandma has Time Warner Cable and while there checked out their guide this afternoon and actually they do have mostly different stuff on. And logically they run different classic games on the different regionals. But a lot of different stuff during the day too.

FWIW, the two on Wednesday were both sports channels, Longhorn and Fox Deportes.

It sounds like it'll be live on DirecTV this Saturday.

Yes, it would help if you could elaborate a little. There is a game on Thursday and a game on Friday. I am hoping for an announcement tomorrow or Thursday, with the channel live in time for Thursday's game.

Agree, the article mentions "this weekend" because that's when WSU plays and it's a WSU blog. I'd still think if it's going to go live it'd be tomorrow, 24 hrs before the first game. It'd make sense for both sides, give Directv a chance to test the channel live to customers and Pac12 could feature their football preview shows before the games start Thursday night.
