This was the statement as of a couple of days ago bnwrx:

    STATEMENT ON DIRECT TV
We know that DirecTV subscribers have been frustrated not having access to Pac-12 Networks. Our biggest partner, AT&T, recently acquired DirecTV and we are working hard on strengthening and expanding our partnership to include carriage of Pac-12 Networks on DirecTV. With football season quickly approaching, we want to make sure Pac-12 Networks are available to fans on DirecTV in time for our opening games onSeptember 3. While we have proven to be the most reliable link between our teams and our fans, we will not be satisfied until we have complete distribution for our fans.

Right they dropped reference to the opening game date, so it looks like that ship has sailed.

So you are saying tnnolman that the network will be turned on in the next two hours and 30 minutes? That's the deadline they got...

If they haven't done it yet it's not going to happen today or ever

That's probably a bit over the top, don't you think? There's no reason it can't happen tomorrow or Saturday or even next week, especially if it's a complicated deal.

I'm not going to uncross my fingers yet...

Supposedly the two sides have stopped negotiating today and have determined there's no sense in staying late to get anything done.
They're not "THAT CLOSE" yet to it being finalized, so negotiations will resume tomorrow.

Still hearing that the two sides aren't close enough yet on the in vs. out of market pricing for it to go live soon.
If that's the case, then progress on that didn't happen today, and we may not even see this network live at all this weekend.
And if that's the case, the Pac 12 just lost even more leverage against AT&T/DirecTV.

And if neither side blinks or they are not willing to cave in at all, we're back to 2012 all over again, in which everyone had their hopes sky high from "imminent" tweets only to get dumped on by bird droppings again.

If they cannot get it on tonight. They have missed any hope of 612 being on anytime soon..they better get this done Friday or Saturday or I will be Watching SEC or B1G FB games this Labor Day weekend.

I think you are perhaps confused regarding today's (and Saturday's) date.

I'm finding that DirecTV personnel don't care whether or not the channel is available. Their concern for the customer is not what I expected.

The Pac 12 officially dropped the ball on this. Larry Scott is no Jim Delany.
They hinted a promise at Sept 3. It's now over for them on accomplishing that goal. It's officially a complete and utter failure.
Truthfully, this should have been expected from them. They are completely inept and "rogue" when it comes to knowing how to handle negotiations and knowing how to "finish" in the redzone.

think the directv twitter change of tone was accurate, they were brutally honest about a few of the questions. They admitted to testing the channel and yes it would be on channel 612 HAD their been an agreement. They prepared in case it was going to be agreed to. Sure feels like at some point this afternoon the writing was on the wall on their not being an agreement today so that's when the tone changed on their twitter feed.

Do you believe the people doing the Twitter feed were getting regular updates from the negotiations?

Personally, I believe that the people running the feed were reflecting their own optimism and pessimism/realism as game time approached.

The channels are still uplinked ... just hidden. There is still hope.

If there was hope, the channel would have been up 30 minutes ago. We've been waiting three years for this to happen, I think we have a right to be as upset as we are.

I don't think they necessarily were in contact with them but I do feel at some point they were told how to answer the stream of questions they have been receiving and would be receiving as gametime approached.

but that's all guessing, bottom line is there is no pac12 network on directv for opening night and with each night of games that passes, as in the past, the impetus to get a deal done vanishes. Some people have mentioned how this isn't a simple deal to get done, many complicated factors but that said, when you don't hit deadlines artificial or otherwise, it's not the sort of news that warms your heart.

I do believe that the person in charge of the Twitter feed was given updates/instructions regarding how to respond to pac12 related enquiries. DirecTV has >170k Twitter followers and the replies are public. While I don't profess to know how directv operates, i do know a person who operates the social media for a large institution, and he's not a low level schmuck.
