Call it whatever you want - I won't be using it with the 24 hour rule.

Sounds good to me. I don't normally buy though because I always have something taped I want to watch.

Same here. Actually, after spending a winter as a full-time swim parent, there was very little time to watch movies. So there were no rentals from BB or D*.

So what happened is that now the movies I wanted to rent, are now on HBO/Starz so I can now record them and watch them as my schedule allows. If you can go 3-4 months after DVD/PPV release, then you have it made.

For much less $$$, we use Blockbuster's "Blu-Ray by mail" service. Until they make the prices competitive, I don't really care what DirectTV calls it.

It's just a name! Will it save me money? Will it be cheaper? You can put a turd on a tuxedo but the fact is its still a turd! :)

So, will we now be offered movies with the same aspect ratio as seen in theaters, you know..... that "cinema like experience"?

    Just wondering. ;)

Why would they change the name of something that is already an industry standard across the board? I can see people calling customer service with the following conversation:
Customer: What's this Directv Cinema thing?
CSR: It's an exciting service from Directv that allows you to rent movies for a 24 hour period right in your home.
Customer: Oh, you mean like a PPV?

It would be like GM telling people they don't sell cars, they sell GM Moving Vehicles.

In the grand scheme of things, this is very minor, but I just don't get it.

    WOW!!!

Great new name for same old overpriced service with only 24 hours to watch.

I'll stick with Blockbuster Blu-Rays. i have a week to watch them and I know they will be OAR.

They can call it whatever they want. For the price they charge for an HD movie they know where they can shove it. For the price of 3 or 4 movies I can get a heck of a lot more from Netflix in a month.

    Marketing

Why have PPV when you can have "Directv Cinema".

Why have DLB when you can have "Doubleplay".

Why have PC playback of shows when you can have "Directv2PC".

I'm sure they have a name for MRV just waiting in the wings.

Soon we'll have "Directv Who's Calling" for Caller ID, "Directv Two-Tuner" so we can record two shows at the same time, and "Directv Bathroom Break" otherwise known as the pause button.:D
