Unless it means lower prices, It won't make any difference what thay call it, it will still be too expensive.

First off, your example makes no sense since D* is doing well. Second, you have no idea why they decided to change it to a more marketing friendly name. Is it because of the word "pay"? I doubt it. They want to identify everything they do with better nomenclature (double play, for example). I doubt it has anything to do with how well the company's doing or because people are being "frightened" away. If that were the case, nobody would call it PPV.

What amazes me is how J6P continues to jump in threads and assume they know why D* is doing things and they're ideas would always be better.

PS. No matter how much members continue to beat this horse, the prices aren't going to go down and the 24 hour limit is not going away.

The new name pretty much makes sense....and taking the word "pay" obviously is a good psychological idea (from a marketing perspective anyway...).

Don't care what they call it. As long as it's $6 for 24 hours, I'm not playing. HBO or DVD for me only.

Really cute how you take something out of context;)

Directv is not doing well with PPV and you know thats what I mean. And I know this how? Somebody who works for the company in a technical capacity told me that they are not very happy with the Revenue being generated by PPV, as a matter of fact it's considered one of their slowest growth areas after the dismal Games section.

So Yes they are changing the Name to get rid of the word "Pay", because they feel that people flee from the words "Pay Per View" like they do from the words "Swine Flu".

The new name is nice, but I'd really prefer that ax a few of these PPV/Directv Cinema channels and add some national HDs. BBC-America is going HD this summer, that's what I really want, not a bunch of restrictive, overpriced PPVs.

I don't get the name change either. Cable and I think Dish still call it pay per view, why call it something different? It will just call confusion for the average person. I wonder what they will call the other pay per view special events like boxing and wrestling, maybe directtv arena/coliseum? The price is way too high and the 24 hr thing turns me off. Yes I do subscribe to netflix too.

They only renamed the channels that show only movies.

Those other channels are still called ppv....for now at least.

Bout time they gussied it up some I reckon, it's still PPV and I wish they would work on gettin' more national HD channels instead of screwing around with this. But hey whatever.
