I just called to cancel. I decided to go the ROKU route since I already have the ROKU player. They offered me $20.00 off per month for 6 months to keep it with Direct TV, so I did.

I had to cancel.. My wife is still unemployed, and I still can't watch any Phillies games here in metro Philly. I know it's not D*'s fault... But I was really hoping to watch the M's this year - I think they're going to surprise a lot of folks.

Well I just called and dealt with retention. They gave me the $20 off for 6 months even after the 1st CSR told me he couldn't do anything for me since the package was now removed from my system. So, looks like I have EI for $71 this year, which is cheaper than MLB.TV, plus I get to see them in HD on my big screen. Play ball! :D

Called in to cancel Sports Pack and was asked about movie channels. I declined those, no special offers on them anyway, and asked about promos for the MLB package. No go on that. Should I try again? Could I add it and then call to cancel it later, prior to the beginning of the season, and maybe get a deal then? Once you add it can you cancel it at anytime without penalty as long as it's before the season starts?

    Thanks Scott.

Just saw this in another forum.....

Just called and referenced the rate increase, and the increase in the Xtra Innings package, and told them I could go through MLB.com and get the season for 100 bucks. At 1st she offered me a $50 credit, and I told her that would still leave the cost of the Xtra innings at $142. She punched a few more buttons, and suddenly I had a $159 credit! That would be the MLB package for $33.

Wow..That's the first I've heard of that big of a discount. I'm happy with the $120 discount I got.

I just called to check on the 2010 price and was given the 6 payments of $31.99 amount.

I didnt threaten to cancel or anything, but just asked if she could do anything to reduce the cost since it seemed higher than last year and direct just had a price increase. She came back and offered me $10 off of each of the 6 monthly payments, to bring it down to $130.

I was very happy with that discount as I was on the phone for all of 5 mins with her, and came out $60 ahead.

I called to get it split into 6 months. They did it. Then they gave me Showtime free for 3 months. Nothing great, but meh, they gave me the NFL package for basically $150 this year and the NHL for $60 so I'm a happy DTV customer.
