Am I nuts, or was the pilot using an Ipad when he crashed?

The iPad [if it was] may simply be the digital version of the aircraft's manual that pilots always have during takeoff.
The plane never really started flying.
While he got it in the air, it came back down, then pulled it back up but never climbed like it should have.
I was waiting for it to "fly" into something.
I think they call it ground effects, and at high altitude it will bite you in the ass.
You get it off the ground, but are boxed in where you can't climb, have low airspeed, and can't drop the nose to pick up airspeed.

Well, from looking at the video, he sure passed a lot of softer tree-less terrain before coming down in a pine tree. Miracle no one was killed. He hit that pine tree dead center. Lucky the dead ones slowed him down.

"He should have" realized he was in trouble when it came down the first time.

Maybe we need to change "flying by the book", to flying by the iPad.

The iPad probably had the app "ForeFlight" installed. It tracks your flight plan, weather, altitude advisories, has maps, charts, etc, in realtime. It's what my boss uses when he flies.

Overloaded, underpowered, ground effects. Pick any one, two or all.

    An amazing video, though!

Reviving this to make a comment on the iPad app. I went flying with a friend of mine yesterday and that app is incredibly useful and FAA approved. Plan your route and it marks it on a map, input the plane you are flying and it estimates your time, while in the air it shows you where you are. There is also a note screen that you write on with a finger and a lot more I didn't really see what it did.

Watching the video again I could see it coming! I have no idea why he ddint set down while the field was still clear and wait a couple hours for the density altitude to improve
