yes, the current skip to tick sucks.

    I would welcome any change.

What I have tried advocating is drop the tick marks entirely. They are pretty much useless.

You should be able to use the Left and Right arrow buttons to move anywhere on the progress bar.

This works great on my LG DVR.

You simply use the right arrow button and the cursor moves right. You can also get to the end of any show in a few seconds so the holding buttons to get to the end is also eliminated in one intuitive setup.

Skip to tick is just as useless on this box as the slo mo feature pure poop !!! Something needs to be done . It seems like they left out all the good features of a tivo and thought no one would notice .

I agree it needs to be fixed.
Red, Green, and Yellow are doing nothing in playback mode, so why not assign the function to one of those buttons?
    No press & hold.
    Just press.

In fact, red could skip backwards and green forwards, just like in the guide.

Not a bad idea. It does have the advantage of "not doing it like a TiVo", which can't hurt in a political sense.

I am still tying to loby for my favorite way of moving ahead and/or back.

I would love the ability to key in an exact time in minutes to skip forward or back.

Watching a taped football game is a perfect example - Half time in the NFL is 12 minutes...So I just key in 1,2,Slip and it jumps forward 12 minutes...

If I am watching a buffered show and come into it late I could skip back the exact amount to get right to the beginning say 17 minutes by keying in 1,7,replay...

brott is right on the money with this suggestion...makes the most sense and would be a nice change.

I also would like to see a change in how to enable Slo-Mo, that would be a welcome change as well.

Side note: (I use 2 HR20s side by side) and when using the 2nd one via "AV1" when using ANY of the (press+hold) trick play features I have to 'press and hold' and then press that button 'again' VERY ANNOYING. Been that way since day one, and no idea how to, or if there is a fix?????

brott's suggestion would eliminate my frustrations with 'press+hold' features, and makes more since all together!

    nice work brott!!!

    It sure as heck would!
Let's put that on the yellow button.

Red = Skip to Tick Back
Green = Skip to Tick Forward
    Yellow = Slow Motion
    Blue = Miniguide

    Time for a poll?

Agree completely. For those of us with programmable remotes, any press and hold function is very difficult to program...

EXACTLY!!! Press and hold is completely assinine.

(on a side note the trick for doing it on the harmony remotes actually works better and more reliably than D*'s own remote.)

I posted this elsewhere a little while ago ...

I agree ... use trickplay buttons only and eliminate all press-and-hold functions by detecting key sequences.

Examples of key sequences for trick-play functions:

[REW] [REPLAY] = jump to previous tick mark. Press [REPLAY] as needed for additional jumps.
[FFW] [SLIP] = jump to next tick mark. Press [SLIP] again as needed for additional jumps.

[REW] [LEFT-ARROW] = jump to beginning of the buffer or current recording
[FFW] [RIGHT-ARROW] = jump to end of the buffer or current recording

[PAUSE] [REW] = slow motion in REVERSE direction
[PAUSE] [FFW] = slow motion in FORWARD direction

[PAUSE] [REPLAY] = step back one frame.
[PAUSE] [SLIP] = step forward one frame

Drew, I think you may have reversed the cause and effects on the step mode, correct me if I'm wrong. Other wise spot on as always.

Well I remember back in my ReplayTV days they had a neat feature. Unknown if it's protected by some legal status.

If you are playing a recorded show, type in the minute number you want (say 4 5) and press enter. You go to the fourty-fifth minute of the show! Magic!

That was nice, but I doubt D* would allow this. Too easy to press 3 and skip and jump ahead 3 minutes. They want you to FF through commercials for some reason.

There was a bunch of stuff like that on replays. You could jump ahead whatever amount of minutes and you could jump to whatever amount of minutes from the beginning.

You could also press numbers in the guide and jump ahead a certain amount of hours or a certain amount of days.

They through a lot of stuff in there. And if you didn't want to use it you could just to it the old fashioned way.

I agree that I don't like the press and hold bit at all. I am very uncoordinated and I never seem to get the thing to where I want it. Also I have always intensely disliked the "slo-mo" it doesn't seem at all like slow motion to me. And trying to get the unit to skip to bookmarks is nearly impossible for me. Glad to know I'm not the only one who is unhappy. I hope D* will hear us and change these things.

They really need to do something. ANYTHING.

The 3 second press and hold is the worst I know of for any box.

If they can fix the Guide button they can fix the others.
