We have a 1 5/8" OD pole mount, for a old Dish Network 500 dish, and are trying to find a way to use a 18" round dual lnb Directv dish on it.I believe the pole mount needs to be 2" OD. Would anybody know of an adapter or fix for this problem , short of installing a new 2" OD pole mount?

the 18" should fit "as is"
It's the HD/slimline that uses the larger 2"

"Well they didn't use to", but you're right, a new 18" comes with a 2" mast.

I must have a new 2" OD Directv Dish, as it was loose when I tried to fit it over the 1 5/8" OD Pole mount. "171059582436" is the Ebay item number, for the dish we bought.
I thought about using some flashing to help make the dish fit. Or possibly sliding a small piece of 2"OD muffler pipe from a auto parts store and securing it to the existing pole mount with some screws. As for the pipe adapter that "jimmie57 recommended ...are you sure it would fit on a 15/8"OD pole?
A general question ...why can't I "cut and paste" on this forum?

Go to a well stocked auto parts store and check in their area for auto exhaust parts. They should have a supply of adapters that will have different diameters on either end. Just bring along a tape measure so you can identify the one you need, as some are labeled as to what the inside vs outside diameter is, since you need one with a two inch outer diameter on one end and one and 5/8 inner diameter on the other end. You can secure it to your pole by drilling and screwing, or a muffler clamp.

I have the opposite issue. Want to mount Dish 1 5/8" OD pole mount to a DirecTV 2" OD pole. I have googled with no luck. The Dish installer would not install onto the DTV mount... He wanted to abandon the DTV mount and install a much flimsier mount which would poke new holes in walls and wood, and leave an ugly mess and an angry wife to deal with. So we still have DirecTV until I figure this out.

Why Would DirecTV help find ways to take their dish off the mount and provide mounting options for a Dish TV dish?

Unlikely. It was a whimsical suggestion that you employ DIRECTV®'s fine service.
