I though I read that the HS-17 has power Inserter built in. I had my upgrade, and the tech left power inserter hooked up. All seems to be working fine. Should I leave it or remove it?

    it's up to you
if you'll remove it, check if a splitter with HS17 coax cable pass its DC to LNBF

Thanks, just wanted to make sure having both would not cause an issue.

You can remove the PI as stated as long as the Coax from the HS17 is connected to port 1 (red) of any splitter. I have a HR54 and it too can power the lnb without a PI - I choose to keep the PI so when my HR54 reboots my other receivers are still working as they are not clients.

in your case keeping the PI does nothing when the HS-17 reboots - you loose everything (Clients) as in NO TV anywhere- till the HS17 is fully restored.
