For what it's worth I've had an ongoing problem that I found a workaround for.

Every week on a Thursday I tried to record Fringe and Supernatural on HD at the same time, 9.00 pm. Supernatural is on a Los Angeles local but I don't know if that's significant.

However for some reason when trying to record the HD programs simultaneously one of the tuners would fall over and lose the signal, giving a 771 error. In that manner I lost Supernatural every week, having to watch it via ..ahem..other means, the following day.

(I'm tech savvy and I know there's a bunch of tests I can do to try and diagnose the issue and /or recreate on another box. However my time and inclination are limited.)

My dear wife came up with the simple solution which worked. She set Supernatural to begin recording one minute earlier than Fringe..and no problem...it worked.

This suggests to me that there's some issue with the simultaneous recording but I'm open to comments/feedback.

It would help to know more about your satellite dish and other equipment. Also, how are the signal readings on both DVR tuners, especially on the 99º(c) and 103º(c) satellites?

If I had to take a guess based on the solution you are probably having some issue with the receiver and the 17v signal used to select the even tps but litz is right we need more details about your complete setup to figure out for sure.

    Oh and...

Signals on 99c and 103c are around 83-88 until I get the 771 and they go to zero.

    Thanks for the input.

if you have a wb68 I have to assume you have more than just the 1 receiver. What are the lengths of the runs from the dish to the wb68 and from the wb68 to the troublesome receiver?

The run to the one I have problems with is @ 75 feet.

I have another in the bedroom the run is @ 100 feet from the switch..never had any problems with that one.

    thnx

    I'd try new BBCs first.

I was having a similar problem. One tuner kept crapping out when certain channels were on all four tuners (2 HR20s). Changed the LNB...didn't work. Replaced BBCs...SUCCESS!

    Yep, try new BBCs first.
If that doesn't help, bypass the multiswitch and connect the DVR's tuners directly to two of the dish's output cables. That will help you determine if it's a defective multiswitch.

Also, when you're seeing those signals drop to zero, is it happening on one or both tuners?

Which tuner? What happens if you swap the BBCs and the 2 SAT INPUT cables? If the problem always stay on the same tuner, you have a defective DVR tuner. If the problem moves when you swap the BBCs, you have a defective BBC. If the problem moves when you swap the SAT INPUT cables, you have a problem with that cable/connectors from the multiswitch.
