My father has been having issues with his Slimline dish lately. He keeps getting messages that say "receiver hasn't downloaded guide information for 'X' hours," etc. When he runs signal tests, there is a big, red "X" in each of the 110 and 119 slots.

So, he called DirecTV, they sent a technician, he replaces the LNB and some cabling, re-aligns the dish (because my father's roofers screwed it up), checks a receiver, says it's OK now, then leaves. Well, a couple hours later the same message pops up, and tests this time show the red "X" only in the 119 slots--all of them.

It would seem to me that the tech did not correctly fix the dish re-alignment issue. Am I assuming correctly? We know this isn't a receiver issue, because all of the HD DVRs on his account are doing the same thing.

    Have him Keyword CLEARMYBOX.

Just recently had same issue after a thunderstorm short blackout and that fixed it.

I know he did that before on all 5 receivers, prior to the DirecTV guy coming out, but the problem then still existed. However, it doesn't hurt to have him try again.

What is your signal strength on the 119? Does he needs the 119?

I doubt that a "clearmybox" is going to fix a dish alignment or LOS issue.

That's what I'm trying to remember myself. Don't the HR2X DVRs get signals from 5 satellites, the 119 among these 5?

Anyway, keyword search CLEARMYBOX did nothing.

Only if he has a Slimline 5.

Their work is guaranteed for a short time period. Call them back and have them come back and fix it.

All DIRECTV receivers connected to a capable dish can receive signals from 119W.

There are a few reason that the 119 is needed

    1. If your SD LiL comes form that slot
    2. If you subscribe to Spanish or Chinese Programming
    3. If you voluntary want to get some Music channels from 119

If you answer NO to all these questions, you can get an SL3 LNB IF LOS is your problem

I am hardly an expert on this issue, but reading previous threads I recall that this could be a problem with what the receiver thinks is your satellite configuration. As I recall, if you have an SL3, it gets the guide data from one satellite, and if you have an SL5, it gets the guide data from another. I would recommend redoing satellite setup on this receiver and make sure it is set for the correct configuration.

There are some english language foreign broadcast available from 119W. Channel numbers are in the 2000s

I was visiting my folks for the weekend and tried this very thing, along with other solutions. When we changed the configuration to Slimline-3, after going through the satellite setup, we got the error message telling us that the 119 satellite itself was detected, but no signal was being detected. Also, upon completion of that redo, there were red Xs in not just the 119 box, but in the 103 and 110 as well. It was showing only the 101 satellite as receiving any signal.

It seems you have older software on your receivers as 110 is no longer being tested and is not part of IV any longer. The 119 issue could be because of a LOS problem but the 103 maybe alignment. I would get a hold of DirecTV® and have them come back

The software is up to date, that much I know. I checked myself.

The receivers he has are all the HR2X series. Specifically, he has an HR20-100, HR20-700, HR21, & HR22.

I was there when the guy Saturday replaced the entire LNB assembly. It was he who switched on one receiver the setting from Slimline-5 to Slimline-3.

What I'm wondering is—don't these installation repair guys have advanced signal meters that enable them to determine with certainty if a dish is correctly receiving a signal from all 5 birds?

Sure, but they must be 1)willing to use and 2) know how to use it

So do you have an SL3 or SL5 LNB?

I'm positive my dad's dish is a Slimline-5. For one thing, before all this happened due to the stupid roofers, the receivers all had Slimline-5 showing in the satellite setup process.

The dish is pretty high up, and it's difficult to determine now if, after the guy replaced the LNB assembly, he just put a new one of the same type up there, or a new 3-LNB one.

I don't know if this helps, but I believe from the dish come 4 cables into a multi-switch.

No, you could still have a Legacy 3 or 5 LNB .
