Isn't Cheddar now making deals with providers like Spectrum to add Cheddar as a normal 'cable channel' in order to get greater distribution. You'd think CBS would do this with CBS/CBS Sports HQ to give them more distribution? Even they could add them as subchannels as they are free anyway. Why wouldn't they Cheddar seem to think it's they way to go?

The difference is Cheddar was able to secure deals because their main channels Cheddar Business and Cheddar News don't offer their live feeds for free online, after the 24 hour free trial you have to subscribe to it for $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year, or be enrolled in a college that has a deal for their on campus Cheddar U channel and signup with your student e-mail account. The free channel on services like Pluto TV, Stirr and Xumo is a seperate best of compilation called "Cheddar Top Stories".

CBSN, CBSN New York, CBS Sports HQ, ET Live and the future CBSN local channels are part of a free OTT expansion. They have no intention of putting it behind a paywall to secure cable and satellite distribution. They had a similar local CBS Plus subchannel in NYC and Philly that they were planning to rollout to the rest of their O&O channels, but they dropped them in favor of their deal with Decades, which later was replaced by StartTV on the CBS O&O's.

ABC News also has their own linear OTT channel "ABC News Live" created from the remnants of the old ABC News Now channel, which continued online and mobile after the cable distribution went to Fusion, while NBC News will be launching their own linear OTT channel "NBC News Now" next month after testing it as "NBC News Signal" late last year.

So just exactly how many channels DOES Cheddar have - besides the 3 above? And which one(s) are the one(s) that are currently offered as a linear channel on U-verse, the DirecTV app & on Comcast (X1 only) boxes?

The main channel you access by default is Cheddar Business, and via a selection in the app you can also get Cheddar News.

Cheddar U is their college only channel, created after they purchased the on campus distribution of mtvU.

Cheddar Top Stories is their best of clip channel that's carried by free OTT platforms like Pluto, Xumo and Stirr.

The new CourtTV isn't owned by Turner/CNN like the previous incarnation that became TruTV was. They sold the trademarks, domain and some back library content to Katz (E.W. Scripps) who also owns Bounce, Laff, Grit and Escape. Its initial carriage is mainly going to be on subchannels, with local cable carriage via those subchannels.

So then which channel is it that's currently on U-verse & Comcast...since I don't believe either one is "app based"? The channel lineup lists don't make it clear, other than it being "Cheddar"...

It IS app based on both Xfinity's X1 and U-Verse.

The main "Cheddar TV" channel was renamed to "Cheddar Business" earlier this year, while "Cheddar Big News" was renamed to "Cheddar News". By default the main channel Cheddar Business loads and autoplays, and there's an option to switch to Cheddar News.

I tried to opt-in to keep Nick Jr. AT&T TV Channel updates but it just takes me to directv.com and no option to opt-in to Nick Jr on Preferred Xtra

I have Preferred Xtra. I have the ATT.com log in so when I went through the link, it took my to my AT&T account and there was a message that says I will continue to receive Nick Jr. I'm more interested about CNN International and I'm curious if it will be in Preferred Xtra. I suppose it will be a wait and see once it's added.

I didn't actually have to "opt-in". I clicked the DirecTV link at the bottom of the /tvchannelupdates page. It took me to DirecTV.com. I logged in, then clicked on "I want to manage my account", and then there was the banner shown below:

My account has not migrated to AT&T billing system yet so when I login my account I get no notices that I will be able to keep Nick Jr

Actually before it was HLN or HeadlineNews, I believe it was CNN2.

With AT&T now owning the Turner Networks, I would think they have a free hand to renumber channels, and move CNN/HLN/CNNi to the News Block.

The names have changed, but the facts remain. There were opportunities to move the CNN channels in 1997 and 1999 during major channel moving. But they remained on their initial channels.

It's not May 19th yet, but it's been in test mode since last week.

I still can’t fathom why in this era they bother to launch CNN International if they aren’t going to provide an HD feed for providers to use. Pointless.

Does it really matter if NEWS is in HD?

Then don't watch or stick to the CNNgo app, while those of us who have been asking for this channel back ever since it was dropped when CNNfn folded and care more about what's being reported instead of the pixel count will enjoy it anyway.

Yes. If it was just anchors sitting at a desk, SD might be acceptable. If it is non-news "pundits yelling at each other" the video doesn't need to be clear (unless you want to see eye rolls and other expressions from the opposing viewpoint of whomever is shouting the loudest at any given moment).

But for NEWS where they are showing us what is going on in the world they should show us in the best quality possible. HD please. If I wanted news with poor picture quality I'd watch the radio.
