Ordered mine online and was sent an HR23-700.
I've talked the CSRs into sending us 3 new HDDVRs the past 3 months for a total of $21! Doing this was NOT easy at all. Since two HDDVRs were replacing non-DVR units, they wanted to do a truck roll. Somehow we talked them out of that too... We now have four HR24-500's... ALL three new units were shipped out to me...
I am upgrading to the whole home dvr and they shipped me two HD DVR's, an old HR20 and an HR22-100, both reconditioned. Totally unacceptable, I'm returning both and buying from Solid Signal today. Any other suppliers selling the HR-24 besides Solid Signal?
Dish isn't any different. Recently, for the first time in a while, Dish has been installing new customers with 622s. And all of the SD equipment has been refurbs for years already (the last SD equipment was manufactured at the beginning of 2009). Dish has adopted the same policy of only talking about model families (HD Duo DVR, for example) instead of specific models (622/722/722k), because they also do not promise any specific model.
I realize I'm comparing apples to oranges, but if you go to buy a car, a 4-year-old car is much cheaper than a brand new car. And a used car is much cheaper than a new car.
I realize it would complicate the order system, but DirecTV should price their models in a similar fashion. Later models have much more recording capacity.
I went to eBay, found a seller with a good rating that had sold HR24's in the past and got one for 165.00 with free shipping. No problems whatsoever. The lease doesn't matter to me, where would I go, Comcast, please. Buy from an online retailer or eBay and be done with it.
