    What is it's version called?

Also why is it diff than -500's? I mean if DTV is going for uniformity (which I like) why not make the codes same number ?

Considering they make both versions for -300 Phillips / -500 Humax, Why no uniformity then?

Hey, can you do me a favor?

Look on the back, right hand side near the SAT inputs and let me know the "FCC ID:" of your -300 unit? Should be a label with BOLD letters: "FCC ID. XXXXXXXX". I'm just trying to get that # on the Philips models.

    Thanks.

Went to Best Buy... and trying to get them to understand a purchase from a lease was insane.

    Now have the following.

    2 D11's
    2 R10's
    1 R15-500
    1 R15-300 (ON ORDER)

IF DIRECTV would upgrade the HR10-250 from ancient 3.xxx I would get the HR10

I agree that the "lease" policy is a little "wacky" Where did you place your order specifically for the R15-300? I was not aware that one could specifically order one, as opposed to the other. That would be cool...........compare both units. :D

I called up the local install company, asked what it would take to get a brand new R15-300.

They said, Will have an installer bring it out Friday, give them a check 99.99. Activate it right then. I said ok.

They was unsure of any diff between R15-300 AND R15-500 except the R15-300 has a much smaller footprint.

Hey that's good. Now you can give us side-by-side comparisons of the units. ;)

Until the version goes full release, I won't know a version number.

They built by different manufactures. And are just different enough that they need seperate builds of the software.

What happened to everything being make by DIRECTV? I thought that's why there was no more Hughes, etc.

Everything is BRANDED DirecTV, but they are not a manufacturing outfit. All equipment has to be made for them and badged, much like a lot of the cheaper electronics companies. They buy from the Far East and badge the products.

The R15 is made by Humax and (I think) Philips, hence the two different model #s.

Earl, Please expand on that comment. How so are they diffrent ?

If the hard drive, and all the guts are to be the same, as well as GUI and functionality, how so would diffrent builds of software be needed ?

Is this where they are using diffrent guts to the system, and each set of guts requires slight diffrent programming software ? (like between a guy and gals inards)

The "guts" are manufactured by two different vendors, as evident by the different size in the box.

Other then that, I don't have any "specifics" on what are exactly different about them. (as in any differences in the chips, capabilities, ect)

Other then they have two different builds for the two units.
All I know is that the units are designed to the exact same in/out specifications, so they are functionally identical.

Man I do wish the upgrade would come out for the 300. I feel so left out. Does it always come out for the 300 after the 500?

No, they come out at the same time.

The 10B8 is not in full release yet, once it is... both the 300 and the 500 will see it.
