Seems Rachel passed away or is on an extended vacation. Now I get multiple calls a week (sometimes a day) from "ANN." Identical message but now it's Ann. My wife got 3 calls alone yesterday on her (prepaid) cell phone from "Ann" while she was at work. I answered one earlier today on home phone and asked them where Rachel was and they said she was on vacation then hung up on me. That plus the multiple calls from power companies has become a real nuiscance recently. Worse than it ever was in the days before the "Do Not Call" law came to be.

Crank calls. You want crank calls?

My phone was ringing off the hook in the one month before election day. I mean, it was otherly ridiculous.

In NY, that is strange. We didn't get 1 single political call (local or national related) this time around.

+1......Ya gotta love it. Between elections politicians institute legislation that effect our lives without seeking out input or opinions. Yet come election time we're treated like close family and are bombarded with mail and phone calls.

I don't even get a name (Rachel, Ann, Sarah) anymore, just an automated message telling me that I have ignored previous calls and this is going to be my last chance to lower my interest rate to as a little as 6.9%. If I do not press '1', my name will be removed from their database and my eligibility will expire.

I've also had a couple of robo calls this week and both had an option of pressing 1 to add me to their Do Not Call list. I guess the FTC's list isn't very effective.

I read today that the FTC just shut down a robo caller. Their 100th operation they closed. After nine years (of the Do Not Call list being) in operation and over 8 million complaints.

I'm getting calls from Ann too. Now, if you call that number back you get to exclude Ann's number and get a long spiel about how this is caused by FCC regulations. I immediately punched that button and it does no good. The phone number that you block is just for that number, and Ann's still calling on another number. This is just never gonna stop. To top it all off, they have me on some kind of list and I can't even "play" with their CSRs anymore, as soon as I hit the button to go to a CSR, I get cut off. Can't win.

My Droid X blocked them all. First time I've never had one election call.

Pressing anything only seems to get you more calls. I had someone tell me the other day that when they get these calls, they pretend to be an answering machine. He claims it works..

All "pressing 1" does is verify the number is real so they can call again. Just like "unsubscribing" from spam emails.

In the last 5 days my wife's cell phone has received 15 calls from a company trying to get us to switch our electric supplier. I've even tried answering the calls that come in in the evening but EVERY TIME there is no one on the other end. EVERY call has a 973 area code but a different phone number. They manage to leave partial voicemail but never are there when I try and answer. It's a prepaid iPhone and there is no way to block calls. They call 2 or 3 times during the day and she has to turn her phone ringer off because she is in the classroom so if there ever is an emergency she'd probably never see it.

They dumped Rachel and now have a guy singing the same song. Have gotten a couple of calls already with the new guy in just the last few days.

I think I see the problem already. You have the ringer turned on. I go to the Landline Phone every evening at approx 10PM, I scroll through the caller ID information. Mumble to myself, Yup, another day another bunch of junk calls.

In all Seriousness If they still call my phone after years of never answering their calls what chance does someone have that answers the phone.
I used to turn the ringer on at night on the bedside phone so I could get calls from a family member that needed help throughout the night and turn it off in the morning again. Even then I always checked the caller ID before answering the call.

There are only two things that will stop those vermin.

Don't have a phone, Not real practical I'm afraid. [IMG]
Some one with God Like powers to zap them.

I wish I did have an answer, however........

I get a credit card services type call once in a while.

Sometimes I tell them I have 60 stolen cards and am looking at an imminent arrest for ID theft and I beg them to send money.

Years ago Omaha Steaks was calling quite a bit (excellent products, btw, but I live close and just stop by their store and have no need to mail order) and asked if they accepted food stamps. They have never called again.

The aluminum siding guy always hangs up when I tell him I rent the place.

And sometimes I ask the callers if I can help THEM. I tell them I am at the order desk at the warehouse and can get them any rubber gasket they need.

    "CLICK"

Start another thread and I will reveal how to make an obscene caller hang up . . .

One Thing You can do i You have free time.

Answer the Phone saying "Thank You for calling the prize hotline, to claim Your free prize!"
I just need a little Information to get Your Surprise prize on it's way
    1. Full name
    2. Mailing address, No P.O. Box Please.
    3. Credit card Number, Type, Expiration Date and CVV code
    4. Their Verbal agreement that You will be recording, allowing You to charge them $25 to cover shipping and handling on their free surprise prize.
    5. What color would they like if applicable to their Prize.

In the past where I had to answer the phone at work, I have asked the caller "How many computers would you like to buy today?"
Some of them actually chuckled before disconnecting.

    Cheers

Guess they got tired of the fact that I never answer my phone if I don't recognize the number so they actually sent me the "free cruise" in the mail. Quickly perusing the fine print I learned that it was a free 2 day cruise, but I'd be given the "opportunity" to extend my vacation for just a small upgrade fee. Oh and apparently by accepting the free cruise I was obligated to sit down and listen for the better part of an afternoon with the rest of the captives on board to them present the advantages of owning time-share vacation properties. I just had to wonder if that's when they were offering the free booze to get people more agreeable to the whole notion. I also had to kind of wonder what cruiseline would agree to let this kind of thing happen on their ship, seems it would generate negative word of mouth to me, so I looked them up on the internet and found that it wasn't affiliated with any real cruiseline (surprise, surprise). This outfit apparently bought it's own old ocean liner (the thing looked like something from before The Love Boat) and gave it a new paint job and called it the Bahamas Celebration and this is how they marketed their timeshare business. Funny thing I actually saw that ship one time when I was docked in Freeport Bahamas and I remember looking at it and thinking that I hoped the people on that ship got a real good deal as their ship definitely appeared to be lacking when docked next to more modern cruise ships!
