I had my first call from Rachel today after a very long absence so I decided to let the call go through and have some fun with the agent. Well, I got put on hold, was told I was caller #2 in line for an agent, and finally got a friendly, "Hello, this is Robert, how can I help you?"

In a cheery voice I said, "Yeah, hi. I want to order a large pie and 2 calzones"...

That's as far as I got when Robert got REALLLY pissed, made a grunting sound and asked, "How about a d**k in your mouth instead" and hung up.

Well... I started cracking up laughing, so I was only upset he didn't hear me laugh...

I guess poor Robert was mad I was wasting his time ... :p

    That is AWSOME...

If only you could have recorded it, it would have gone Viral in a few minutes.

I understand they have a job to do, but they have to understand... they are like one step higher in the "phone call chain" above collection people.

That should read "an illegal job to do."

I would love to see how they train their call center people and what they tell them (being a former call-center trainer I can only guess). I wonder if these folks are actually told they are breaking federal law on a couple of levels.

They must have been on vacation (or maybe got shut down by the feds and came back as happened once before) because after a lull of around a month they have returned with a vengeance. Already had 5 calls this week.

Shouldn't that be a step lower then collection people? As much as I hate collection people (problem for me is having a common name - they either think you are the deadbeat or think you know everyone else in town who has the same last name) they are doing a legitimate job.

Yup. I've definitely noticed in in-flux of missed calls on my phone that when I check the number appear to be from Card Member Services. Just had 2 yesterday.

Just had an interesting telemarketing ploy:

Call started off by saying "Not to hang up as this was a urgent call from your local police department". This initially made me think telemarketer but about 3 years ago, the police department used a service to inform residents that the area near the school was in lock down as the police hunted for a gunman who was on foot near the elementary school. .
The call went on to say that "a burglary had just occurred in my neighborhood and police had been alerted". Looked at the clock and it's 2:15 with kids at the elementary school up the road due to get out in 10 minutes.
The caller then went on with "Your neighbor has referred your name to us for a brand new GE security system and from there we move on to the sales pitch. Press 1 if interested in protecting your home and press 2 if you want your name removed."
I press 2 and am transfered to another chatty kathy who thanks me for staying on the line and pressing 2. she tries one more time to hit me up with the sales pitch and says I need to hit 2 again to be removed from the list..

When you are already that low on the list, does it really matter who is ahead of who.. ? :)

I have a personal distate for colleciton people.
Had to deal with them for my dad's estate (And still do 6 years later)

    I fully understand!

My wife had a collection agency call for her 3 months after coming to this country. The idiot on the other end kept claiming that my wife had established phone service with GTE a year prior to that and skipped out on paying the bill. It took several calls before I finally found someone in his office who had the IQ high enough to understand how this was not possible.

However, I guess this is not nearly as bad as having to try and get the person conducting her background interview for her job that she in fact was not the same (name) person who was arrested in 1975 (she was born in 1976) or even resemble the person in their photo (different races)

Pressing "2" to be removed is like replying to the unsubscribe address for spam mail. All it does is confirm you really exist and gets you more calls/emails and most definitely not "removed."

I thought the quacking was funny, but so did Rachel and her cohorts. Now, if we all quacked when we got those calls...

    Quack, quack.

    This is interesting:

The Federal Trade Commission, which in 2010 shut down a massive robo-calling operation that was responsible for a huge number of the calls from Rachel — and Stacey, a similar friendly voice selling auto warranties — said the responsible company made 2.6 billion calls in a year and a half period, of which 1.6 billion were answered by consumers.

I have not received any calls from Rachel in the past few weeks but I sure am getting a lot of 'official' looking junk mail for the same services. We are not talking those which come in the 'FRED EX' or 'Unified Postal Service' envelopes but those which have a government seal on them, the warning about misuse, and the official looking name such as 'United States of America Treasury Division - Georgia'.

I am on the FCC's Do Not Call list, so every time Rachel robocalls me she's violating the Do Not Call law.

I don't know exactly how I have ducked Rachel for six months, but a no-name outfit calls me to inform me there's no problem with my credit cards, but.....

And can we get rid of politician's damned calls, too, or did they simply write themselves in as exempt??

The Politicians wrote themselves as exempt :(

Callerid is wonderful - if I don't recognize the number, or it doesn't popup with name I recognize - it doesn't get answered.

Unfortunately doing that isn't practical for everyone ..... sometimes (as happened to me twice in the last year) an unrecognized call may be an emergency call. With parents in their 80's & 90's 1200 miles away unfortunately I can't ignore unrecognized calls.
