I'll never know if Rachel loves me or not then.

Every evening 10Pm or so I review the caller ID, I never answer numbers or names I don't know. Actually I'm away from the phone at work and so on from 9Am til 10Pm. When it does occasionally ring before 9AM I look at the caller ID and ignore it.

I know I'm important however :sure: Since for most of the week New Jersey has been calling me. I must be important, they use two different area codes even.:D

If more people did like I do and ignored the phone ringing................

Don't you ever get the urge to quack? Try it, just find someplace quiet and quack for a while...

The last time I got that call I asked for her bosses name and direct telephone number and told the caller that I'd be reporting them to my state's Attorney General if I received any more calls. That worked for me. It has been 2 months now and I don't believe they've called me since.

It didn't work. Believe me. You can report them to the POTUS and it wouldn't matter. You've just been lucky. There have (literally) been MILLIONS of complaints filed with the FCC and other gov't agencies and it is totally meaningless.

This year I purchased a new set of Panasonic phones that have the ability to block up to 30 numbers. Once they are on the blocked list the phone rings once so it can get their number, then it sends them a busy signal and does not ring anymore. I definitly love my new phones.

On another note: I found out that your credit card company is giving out your name and phone number to them. You can call the credit card company and insist that you be removed from the lists. The best I remember there are 3 lists at each place you have a card.

I gave in (for fun) the other day and spoke with one of them (I was using the fax line). The individual I spoke with stated they were getting names from the credit bureau, more specifically Equifax and not the credit card company. Once I finished wasting about 10 minutes of this persons time ending my call (just as she thought she had me hook, line, & sinker) with "I'm so sorry but I probably should have told you earlier but I don't do business with anyone who calls me over the phone", I phoned Equifax and confirmed this and was told I would need to mail in a written request in order to get off their pre-screen/pre-approved list.

My phone also has a 30 (maybe 25) call block memory but the only problem I've seen is Rachel & Friends seem to call from a different number every time. those 30 spots fill up pretty quick. Over the last 3 or 4 weeks when she calls at home, I press the '1' and say, "Chin's Wong Tong Palace, what can I get you?". Not sure if it is working but I only got 1 call last week.

The one hitting me hard now - is the alternate power utility. I get up to four calls a day telling me I can get cheaper power by signing up with them.

It like years ago, when your long distant phone service kept getting hijack once your account number got into the hands of one of them.

If you are going to do something like that, use numbers that might not give them more information then you wanted them to have as you could find yourself getting one of these calls, "Hi, This is Joann from Card Services we are calling you about your Discover Card ...".
Next time, trying numbers such as 4941 or 5469, that is unless you do your banking in UAE or Russia ;)

I have logged well over 100 calls from Rachael and not one number has been duplicated. My VOIP provider allows unlimited individual call blocking (with a choice of 4 outcomes for each one including blacklist, whitelist, disconnect message & voicemail) and it hasn't stopped them yet.

I also started getting the "power company" calls as well since NJ is a "choose your own" state. They do tend to use the same number even though it isn't "real." I guess they haven't figured it out yet.

I already get my power from an alternate company so I tell them that and hang up, but I never considered that the power company calls might not even be legitimate.

Of course the big problem right now is the political candidates. I'm like TBoneit in that I never answer calls from a number I don't recognize, and often from numbers I do.

If I have won a legitimate contest that I actually entered (not some "European lottery"), they will have my email and/or mailing address and can reach me that way.

    Yes, of course.....!

—Of course, I haven't actually received it yet, but they promised as soon as I could wire them $50,000 for their airfare and other expenses, they'd meet me in London with a satchel full of it..... very full of it.
