Nope, you bought the D* TiVos, you owned them. I had a lot of them and modified them without fear of any ToS. All had the largest HDDs I could fit in them and those HDDs bought from Weaknees cost a lot more than the HDDs do today. IIRC I was paying hundreds of dollars for them. They had to be formatted and the only place I could find them was Weaknees.

But, I'm thinking there might have been one or two SD DVRs that had to be leased prior to the 24s coming out in late 2006. Was the R10 a leased DVR?

The R10 might have been leased too. None of the TiVos that I bought were leased.

Gonna take a long time for that to sink in. I finished watching The Last Kingdom on NF last night and had no idea what was next. That "search" lasted about 20 seconds and I started watching Traitors, a NF Original I had never heard of. Got hooked right away. NF never ceases to amaze me.

Exactly! Well, not quite a la carte but close enough. What you want when you want it. No rain fade.

I had the Sony SAT-A55 as my first box, but I quickly swapped it out for the Sony SAT-T60. That was at least one of the SD DirecTivos. DirecTV & Sony should have paid me commission. I sold like 5 to 10 of them through demos that blew peoples minds since everybody still had VCRs. For that one, I upgraded the drive as well as the RAM. There was a little board with a female socket that went over the edge connector and you could give it more memory to go faster. I also installed the... whatchamacallit... software... darn, I had to google it... it was either called xPlusz or xTreme. My first HD DVR was the beloved HR10-250. Then after they switched to MPEG4 I went to the HR20.

They definitely have a lot of random stuff lol. There was a movie about a pyscho / twisted kid (mind games, stalking, etc, not shooting) at school that I liked although internet folks would probably slam it as a C grade lifetime movie. Haha. It was watchable though. Still, as far as pyscho / twisted kid movies go, I'd say Better Watch Out is at the top of the list, but its not on NF right now. It's pyscho / twisted kid with a dark humor twist.

It has become a wonderful series. Have you read any of The Saxon Chronicles? I just finished the latest book and they just get better. Here's a link, the books are in chronological order and it's best to start with The Last Kingdom which the series is named for. Notice how well the battle scenes play out in the TV series? Bernard Cornwell depicts battles better than any author I've read and the TV series has some great battle scenes.

Which I only use for the odd Yankee game and Monday Night football and the occasional boxing match. Think of that $129 monthly payment for a channel that has made its mark by pumping out unrealistic...content. I am not pleased.

NF has a lot of unwatchable (YMMV) movies. And some really good original movies. And some movies that look great until you find out they're in a language you don't speak and are dubbed. I can live with subtitles but I can't stand dubbing. Only my opinions, opinions by someone too stupid to have a second language.

Have not - thanks for the heads up. If you like period pieces and have access to it (Starz), Outlander is also great.

I just watched The Marvelous Medicis, Knightfall, The Last Kingdom and The Borgias. I do like period pieces. I have been meaning to try Outlander, I'll try to get to that next. Is that something a woman would enjoy?

My wife loved it (one of her favorites of all time - and mine). Give it a few episodes, episode 1 especially starts slow but then it really takes off. You won't want young people in the room for sure - not gratuitous, but there.

Tell her that the dog ate the satellite dish and subscribe to Philo. It includes all three Hallmark channels.

Don't blame this on your wife.

You've repeatedly said you're still here only for the sports. ;)

But that's the main reason for marriage; wife blames the husband and husband blames the wife. Gives them both cover.

Well TMobile TV looks like a bust. $100/mo for the base package + one box. No thanks. Dunno what they're thinking with that. It's the less value for more money then a traditional provider.

Yep it’s all about the content! I really liked The last kingdom. Other good series like Stranger things and Dare Devil also used up a month of my TV watching. Netflix cannot be beat because they listen to their customers and make and retain the series that the customers vote for.
