I really like the new 102 Newsmix channel. Great for times when a big news event is taking place. You can now view 8 national News Channels at the same time, and go full frame to any one you want.

Really nice idea. Thanks, D* :)

I just wish it was in HD. Same with the SportsMix channel.

Too funny. D* sent me a TV mail yesterday making me aware of the Newsmix channel. Maybe they just want more people to use it.

Yes, I think they want to raise awareness of it. They've worked hard on making it more responsive and I'm sure they want to see more use of it.

Kids Mix Channel was deleted a few years ago, but the News Mix and Sports Mix have been there for a long time.
Sort of HD, if you select one of the 8 channels it goes to the HD channel if available - Yeah I know not HD with all 8 on screen.
You will notice that they will show channels that are not in all packages, for example people with the Choice package can view Fox Business on the mix channel.

Now if only they'd give us a "Mix" channel we could use to create our own mix...

I wouldn't want them to waste HD bandwidth on the MIX channel necessarily as long as it tunes to an HD channels I'm OK with it. I don't use it to watch, just to select something.

I don't believe it wastes any bandwidth. I believe it may just be a remapping.

I agree with the HD comment.. make both channels HD (Sports and News) and I will watch them much more frequently. If they can pull it off with the NFL Sunday Ticket Game mix channel in HD (LOVE IT -- that channnel drives me INSANE!!) they can do it on these channels.. as to to the whole bandwith/mapping thingie, not sure.... BUT.......

    Make 'em HD!!!!!!

After seeing this thread, I looked at those mix channels over the weekend. I'd start using them if they were in HD, but not as they currently are. If my screen is going to be chopped into eighths, it's going to have to be very crisp and clear. My eyes aren't what they used to be.

Yeah...i've never liked them because they're not very clear at all. HD would be better. Right now i don't even have them listed in my guide as i never use them.

For it to be a remapping, the receivers would have to have 8 tuners and the horesepower to simultaneously scale each of of those feeds and re-mix them into a single feed. They have neither.

They need to make the screens bigger like the MLB or NFL sports mix channels.

I would add they are succeeding in making the mix channels more responsive. Compared to when I used mix last year, it took less than 10 seconds to highlight (yellow rectangle) the first channel, then moving among the channels was also quite responsive. Selecting and tuning to any of the mix channels seemed to happen in the same time as selecting a channel from the guide.

Can't wait for NFLST Game Mix now!!!!

Note this feedback is from an ADD type channel surfer, so I can relate to the initial impressions of the mix channels.

Sorry to add in some off-topicness, but they have also been successful in improving the responsiveness of the online guide, ability to switch to other dates and times, and setting up a recording.

...what? It has nothing to do with your receiver or the tuners included in your receiver. The remapping of channels (RSN's, The 101, Sports Mix, etc.) happens constantly and is handled by DirecTV.
