This is a friend of mine who e-mailed this question to me: Can someone be kind enough and answer this for me?

I have another DirecTv receiver question.....I get my locals in HD thru my HR20-700 now, with no separate antenna. I use both b-band converters on the back of my HR20-700 currently. If I was to get the HR24-100/200/500, am I correct that I would need the AM21 to continue to get my locals in HD and that the 2 current b-band converters would continued to be used with the new HR24-100/200/500 and AM21?

Your friend would not need the AM21 as (s)he isn't using an OTA antenna.

So he will not need an AM21 to get his locals with any of the HR100, 200 or 500, correct? And will he still need to use the BBC with any of the HR24's?

If (s)he does not have or use an OTA antenna, it does not matter which HR2x is used. BBCs are still required unless on a SWiM setup.

Just to make sure your friend understands, since (s)he doesn't need a separate antenna for locals means it’s coming over the satellite so every current DirecTV receiver will get the locals also.

Without SWiM all the HR’s, except the HR23, will require BBCs. With SWiM the BBCs go away and only a single wire goes to each receiver.
