You don't have to have the minis on the non-4K TVs. Just tell the tech you want to keep the working DVRs. I know you have another thread somewhere talking about 4K; if I were you I would get a C61K for your 4K TV even if you don't really need it if you have an RVU TV, and get the tech to replace the HR21 with an HR24 (the Hr21 is just a "dog")

Thanks for the info. What I'd like to do is this. Replace the HR24 that's DOA with another HR24. Keep the other HR24. Replace the HR44 with the HR54 (and the C61K at your recommendation, although I'm not quite sure the reasoning behind that..what are the advantages?) The other two could be replaced by the Genie minis, since one replaces the HR21 which is crazy slow, and the other is just an old non-DVR receiver. Think the tech would do that and not charge me?

I don't see any advantages to doing anything with D* and 4K at the moment. Not enough 4K content on D* to make it worthwhile. You'll blow thru the 4K offerings in a couple weeks and have nothing more to watch. I don't have one mini and I don't want one. I don't even want my 44, never mind a 54 that seems to be problematic at best and a mini that you have to have to get 4K. Get all that stuff and suddenly they'll come out with something that makes sense.

My 44 is an excellent box, the 34 before it was terrible and I had to fight to get it upgraded. As far as 4K content is concerned, for me, it just for future proofing and now is the time to do it while i have very little recorded and they have to come anyway to fix my bad DVR. All I care about is losing tuners I use, otherwise they can upgrade anything they want. 4K is just a bonus, and since there are a few sporting events I would watch in 4K available, that would be fun to have (as long as there's no additional fee). I don't buy On-Demand stuff no matter what I have.

Take the C61K. Whether you end up using it is up to you, but if you don;t take it and then have RVU issues, you will have to pay for a C61K at a later date instead of getting it as part of the upgrade.

I agree. I'm not a client proponent, but this is one I grabbed for free (free upgrade) due to 4K. The HS17 will never be an option for our household due to all of our DVR's, especially since we camp a lot and our HR54 is stationary at home!

I'm in a similar situation as one of the earlier members. I just had an HD DVR die and DirecTV says the only option is free replacement of my whole system with Genies. The one CSR I talked to says they will not replace broken DVRs with DVRs.

So I didn't do anything and I have a DVR that overheats.

Is anyone having any luck getting a replacement HD DVR sent to them now?

Did you call Retention? What you were told is BS. Call Retention.

Thanks, Rich. No, I only made the one phone call to a standard CSR. When I had a previous unit die, they tried really hard to talk me into a Genie system, but I was able to get them to replace it instead. I'll try CSR Roulette and if that doesn't work, I'll call Retention.

Why go thru all that, a simple call to Retention should get you what you want.
