Why would you do that?
i don't get in trouble here, but we answer all this guy questions on the other forum but he don't get it

sportman13,
The Good Wife is a good example of a show that often runs late because of a previous sports program overrunning. What I do with these programs is set up the series link to stop recording at a later time.
Series manager>select the series>series options> stop>1 hour later (or even 2, it's up to you)

Check in the Series manager and make sure that they both were set for 1-1/2 hours for the end time.
Sounds like one of them was set to just 1 hour.

The key to understanding what is going on is that the DVR doesn't contemplate that one show follows another. All it knows is that you've asked to record two shows for 2.5 hours each. You'll end up with 5 hours worth of content recorded (or a conflict that prevents recording one or the other).

I suspect the safest and most economical way to pull this off would be to set a manual timer starting at 9pm for 3-1/2 hours to record both shows as a single recording.

Yes, each would record for 2.5 hours, for 5 total with overlap. Now, one thing CBS did last year on Sundays with two football games, they bumped the primetime schedule by 30 minutes or so, and the guide data showed this. So I rarely had to extend more than 30 minutes of my own.

But I don't think there's a need to extend both (if they are on back to back), just extend the last one. That could cause the end of the first show to show up on the second, but less time used on the dvr.

I record both of those shows myself and to get around the problem I just set my series to start and stop on time . Then record the nightly news on Sunday night by highlighting it and press the record button since I do not want it recorded every night..
When one show follows the other it is not necessary to extend the first one to get all of the show. Just add the time extension to the last show.
Of course I do not keep these after watching them so I do not care if it starts on one recording and stops on the next.

I do this on Racing when it is live and they are talking about it before the race and the race itself comes on next. I do extend the race in case it runs long like it did yesterday.

This is always a problem on Sunday nights during football season. I usually pick the first show I want to watch and extend it for 6 hours. I do this on 3 or 4 HRs. Gotta be careful on Sundays when it comes to programming. I sure hope nobody asks if I do that to channels that don't have football games. Huh. My smilies aren't working?! :joy: Another OOPs.

Here are at least three ways someone said Below remember this for Sunday starting at 9 pm when sports is on CBS

1.5 hours for both the Good Wife and Mentalist

suggestion I made was to keep life simple, not to reduce recording time. It has the advantage that if you go to the recording titled Good Wife, the whole program will be in it somewhere. And if you go to the recording of the Mentalist, the whole program will be in there also.

If you never had to extend much more than 30 minutes then a one hour extend time on each program would be enough.

The alternative is to not extend the first program at all (good Wife, correct?) and then extend the second program (mentalist?) by one hour. Then lets say the Good Wife actually starts 45 minutes late because the previous program overruns by 45 minutes. What you would then have is:

One recording marked the Good Wife, with 45 minutes of the overrun sports program and 15 minutes of the Good Wife, plus one recording titled the Mentalist, with 45 minutes of the Good Wife, and then one hour of the Mentalsit, and then 15 minutes of whatever is the next program after the Mentalist.

if you have any other time extending time for theses two shows thoughts please let me know get back to me

Or just move out of the EST/CST feed zone into the MST/PST feed zone. You get the shows when they are supposed to air, and all you have to do is be annoyed by the multiple popups telling the EST/CST viewers that The Mentalist is scheduled to start approximately an hour and a half ago (in a time zone you are not in, BTW). And that is, of course, because CBS is too lazy to produce a clean feed for the west coast and just sends the east coast feed into a delay server. For instance, if TGW starts at 9:18:53 on the east coast and is scheduled to start at 9 PM in LA, once they know that actual hit time they just set the delay window for 2:41:07, and TGW then magically appears at 9:00:00 straight up in LA with no further Operator input. If they want a 8 PM start, just subtract an hour from the delay. The delay server can even do that math for them.

What is sad about that is it would take one idiot transmission tech all of 2 minutes to figure out the routing one time only and they could use that all year, or all the way to the end of their NFL contract. IOW, instead of delaying the east coast feed as it leaves the NOC with popups and is sent to east coast stations, delay it at a pickoff point prior to the popups being inserted, ferchrissake, which is a virtual no-brainer and would cost them nothing.

Still, even with CBS's hamhandedness, that's a lot less annoying than having to extend the record times.

for both the Good Wife and Mentalis
2.5 plus 2.5 = 5 hours total for both shows would I have used up 5 hours of show doing this
For a 24 episode season you can record:10 one hour shows
Where did you get this information ? You can choose All Episodes.
